Sony, Park Ridge, NJ, offers the XCD series of machine vision cameras that use the high-bandwidth 1394b interface and are designed for applications ranging from parts inspection to microscopy. They are available in either monochrome or raw color versions. Each fit the same compact form factor to ease integration in industrial environments, and can be configured as a star connection or daisy-chained. Sony’s 1394b software driver maximizes the 800 Mbps bandwidth and can daisy-chain up to 62 cameras with an optional external power supply. The series comprises three sets of cameras offered in VGA, SXGA, and UXGA resolutions.
The VGA resolution XCD-V60/V60CR cameras have a frame rate speed of 90 fps and the ability for high-speed capture in parts inspections, automotive assembly, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and electronics applications. The SXGA resolution XCD-SX90/SX90CR cameras feature a high-speed, low-noise sensor. This 1/3-type progressive scan CCD achieves 30 fps performance for delivering live video performance at high resolution. The UXGA resolution XCD-U100/U100CR cameras feature a 15 fps performance combined with the full range of XCD Series features, making the cameras suitable for part/surface inspection, PCB inspection, gauging, and bioscience applications.
