Motor Control Reference Platform

The R8C/25-based motor control reference platform from Renesas Technology (San Jose, CA) accelerates the design of brushless DC motor applications. The platform allows engineers to quickly bring the latest motor control technology to appliances, powertools, fans, pumps, and other products, while providing the performance, reliability and power efficiency needed in these systems.

altThe heart of the platform, the R8C/25 MCU, is based on a 16-bit R8C CPU core that operates at frequencies to 20MHz. It can handle different BLDC motor control algorithms to meet needs for cost, performance, and flexibility. The platform supports four brushless DC motor control algorithms: 120-degree trapezoidal Hall-sensor, 180-degree sinusoidal Hall-sensor, 120-degree sensorless using external comparators, and 120-degree sensorless using on-chip A/D converters. Features of the R8C/25 include a multifunction timer with 8-bit prescaler, an input capture/ output compare timer, a UART/clock synchronous serial interface, a 10-bit A/D converter, eight external interrupt pins, a Flash ROM programmable from 16KB to 64KB, and 2 KB of data flash.
