Laser Safety Shutter

altElectro-optical Products Corp. (Fresh Meadows, NY) has developed a laser safety (interlock) shutter that returns to the “off” position in case of power failure. The shutter consists of a blade mounted on a rotary solenoid with a limited rotation angle. When the shutter is powered, the blade moves to an “on” position and clears the path for a laser beam. When the power is turned off, the return spring of the shutter moves the blade to an “off” position and blocks the laser beam. The shutter features 5V, 12V or 24V DC operation, and mounting to optical table is available. The SH-10 model (0.5", 13 mm) and the SH-20 model (1", 25 mm) are RoHS compliant.
