Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp., Concord, MA, has introduced SolidWorks® 2011 3D design software that includes hundreds of improvements in design, simulation, and collaboration. New drawing detailing functions eliminate manual dimensioning, enabling users to automatically align, stagger, or center dimensions in a single click. 2D Simplification enables users to select an intersecting plane and apply loads and restraints to perform static, nonlinear, pressure vessel, and thermal studies. SolidWorks Simulation calculates the results and displays them on the full 3D model. An Electronics Cooling Module lets users set up and execute thermal simulations quickly, and an HVAC Module works the same way for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Also in the new version is the ability to create photorealistic renderings in PhotoView 360, which is fully integrated into SolidWorks CAD software. Other new enhancements are features that automate weld placement and documentation, bend calculation tables, integration of SolidWorks Design Checker into the SolidWorks Enterprise PDM software, and routing capabilities for pipes, tubes, and conduit runs.
