Dassault Systemes SolidWorks Corp., Concord, MA, has introduced
SolidWorks® 2012 3D design software that features
improvements in assembly and drawing capabilities, built-in
simulation, design costing, routing, image and animation creation,
and product data management. The new version lets users
automate the design functions they use most often, and supports
collaboration and team connectivity. New drawing tools enable
changed dimensions to be automatically highlighted, and previous
values are shown to help with revisions. Large design review allows
instant opening and review of massive assemblies or any individual
component with walkthroughs, sectioning, and measuring.
Feature freeze eliminates unwanted feature rebuilds by locking all
features above the “freeze” bar, speeding up the design of complex
models. An equation editor allows users to create equations faster and understand order more easily. A design costing tool automates
manufacturing cost calculations for sheet metal and machined parts. SolidWorks Simulation includes enhanced motion
optimization that automatically uses motion study results to create sensors and refine complex machine aspects such as motor
size, bearing loads, and range of travel.
