Flexible Absorbent Binder for Packaging Applications

Flexible Absorbent Binder (FAB) is a transparent polymer cured from a water-based solution. It is ideal for maintaining in-package humidity during shelf life and transport without drying out the package contents. FAB can make a new product with unique liquid-and vapor-handling capabilities, or it can be incorporated into other products and packaging that need humidity control or dispensing. It acts as a binder and does not require additional binders to hold it in place on a suitable substrate.

Conventional equipment for aqueous coating applies FAB. It dries to form a transparent, cross-linked, and water-absorbent film that can absorb many times its weight in water, including salt water and mild acidic solutions. FAB’s transparency and binding strength suggest its use as part of a clearwrap system. The coating is gas-permeable, suggesting its use in a final filter for gases that must be delivered dry.
