Sandvik (Benton Harbor, MI) has introduced Sandvik Sanergy HTTM, an advanced stainless steel strip developed for interconnectors in solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs). The strip has excellent high temperature corrosion resistance and very good high temperature strength in the range normally used in SOFCs.

Carefully controlled chemical composition ensures the growth of a dense and strongly adhering oxide scale when oxidized. Low surface contact resistance of the steel grade ensures very low degradation in fuel cell environments. The strip is gas tight, so its use as an interconnector material enables thin metal interconnectors in planar fuel cells.

The thermal expansion of Sandvik Sanergy HT is well-matched to the thermal expansion of the electro-active ceramic materials used in fuel cells. The material has good formability and processing characteristics.
