Crystek Corporation’s (Fort Myers, FL) CPLL66 family is the company’s first foray into the PLL/Synthesizer market. Designed for digital radio equipment, fixed wireless access, satellite communications systems, base stations, personal communications systems, portable radios, and test instruments, the CPLL66 is a complete PLL/ Synthesizer that only needs an external frequency reference and supply voltages to operate the internal PLL (phase lock loop) and VCO (voltage controlled oscillator).

The Crystek CPLL66 is programmed using a standard three-line interface (Data, Clock, and Load Enable). It has a step size of 2500 kHz, settling time of 3 ms, and output power up to 6 dBm with an average of 3 dBm. The VCO and PLL use separate 8 V and 3 V power supplies, respectively, at currents of 50 mA and 25 mA, respectively.

According to company officials, the new device, which includes both the PLL and VCO, is only slightly larger than a standard VCO. It is housed in a compact 0.6 × 0.6 × 0.15-in. SMD package, which saves board space. The newly introduced CPLL66 family has been initially released to cover 1 GHz to 5 GHz in bands. Typical phase noise at 4 GHz is -90 dBc/Hz at 10-KHz offset, with 0 dBm minimum output power. Using a reference frequency of 10 MHz, the PLL/Synthesizer exhibits second harmonic suppression of -15 dBc, and -25 dBc for the third harmonic. Input impedance is 100 kOhm, with an output impedance of 50 Ohm.

Crystek manufactures frequency control products, including quartz crystals, XOs (clock oscillators), TCXOs (temperature compensated oscillators), VCOs (voltage controlled oscillators), VCXOs (voltage controlled crystal oscillators), and TCVCXOs (temperature compensated voltage controlled oscillators). Crystek offers custom manufacturing of quartz crystal and oscillators from quartz bars through packaged and tested finished products.
