SCADA panels and enclosures typically have an ‘off-the-shelf / office-grade’ battery back-up, or UPS, protecting the ‘brains’ of the control system. These 0°-40°C rated devices often fail after a few months when used in environments with temperatures – both high and low – which far exceed the device’s rating. Typically, this is due to battery failure, since standard batteries are rated to last a few months at extreme temperatures.

By contrast, Falcon Electric’s SSG® Series UPS carry a UL, cUL and CE listing for operation in extreme temperatures (-20°C to 55°C and -30°C to 65°C) and are designed to operate over a wide range of temperatures.  For example the batteries are designed to last 4 years at 50°C and up to 12 years at room temperature (77°F).
