The votes are in and the winners of the 2006 Photonics Tech Briefs Readers’ Choice Product of the Year Awards have been selected. The three PTB Products of the Year were presented at a special awards reception and dinner in New York City on April 23.

For each of the eight issues of PTB, the editors choose a Product of the Month. That product exhibits exceptional technical merit and practical value for our readers. At the end of the year, those eight products are placed on a ballot on the PTB Web site, and our readers choose the products they felt were the most significant new introductions to the photonics engineering community in 2006.

The 2006 PTB Products of the Year are:

Lambda Solutions

(Waltham, MA)

The Dimension-P Series Raman spectrometers provide real-time analysis and monitoring in pharmaceutical or food processing quality control. The systems are operated via RamanSoftTM software that features proprietary algorithms and automation capability for data acquisition, data processing, and data analysis. The Dimension-P1 and P2 include an external sampling module and the Vector Raman ProbeTM, an internal sample compartment.

The Helios pump-probe transient absorption spectrometer is used to monitor extremely short-lived optically absorbing states. Designed for the study of ultrafast phenomena such as electronic deactivation, intersystem crossing, vibrational relaxation, internal conversion, and intramolecular electron transfer, the device features an experimental time window ranging from 150 fs to 3.2 ns, covering wavelengths from 350 to 1600 nm. The system is completely turnkey, including the optics, optomechanics, delay line, spectrometer in the optical unit, and a PC containing the data acquisition hardware and software. The system is designed to work with an amplified Ti:Sapphire femtosecond laser.
