The temperatures produced by components in propulsion systems of rockets and missiles determine their ultimate performance. Since these temperatures occur very rapidly and under extreme conditions, standard thermocouples fail before meaningful temperatures are measured. This paper describes high performance thermocouples, which measure temperatures with millisecond response, under the most severe conditions.
