Access to complex climate modeling and simulation models from NASA’s Earth-observing satellites will be easier after development of a Web-based system from Parabon Computation. The company is working with NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center (Greenbelt, MD) to help scientists access climate models. The models would be hosted as a Web service so users can access and run them in a Web browser, without the use of a local copy of the application.
Parabon was awarded the contract through a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant last year. The company buys excess or idle computing capacity on enterprise systems, and manages the time on a server that allocates the jobs as resources are available.
The Frontier Grid Platform can be configured to run on both dedicated and non-dedicated computers. The Frontier grid infrastructure is made up of several different software components. It supports major operating systems such as Windows and UNIX.
