Highly pure, single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are mass-produced in bulk forms such as vertically aligned “forests” through a process called Super CVD, a supercharged chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process. Structures of carbon SWNT are patterned and their growth controlled using specialized methods and furnaces.

With the process, controllable growth is exponential, including controls for the length of the nanotubes, plus patterning to fit a specific need. This can result in a “forest” of vertically aligned SWNTs with a purity to 99.98%, a 2,000-fold improvement over traditional CVD rates. This method of using water as a catalyst increases production 1,000-fold, reducing production costs. Attributes of single-walled nano - tubes compare favorably to multi-walled nanotubes. For instance, they are stronger, more bendable, more flexible, have higher optical transmittance, and a larger specific surface area.
