Siemens PLM Software, Plano, TX, has released Solid Edge® software ST3, a hybrid 2D/3D design tool that features the company’s Synchronous Technology (ST), which accelerates product design, streamlines revisions, and improves importing and reusing of third-party CAD data. Synchronous-based models can be used directly with all assembly applications such as piping, frames, wiring, and assembly features. Synchronous-based part-to-part associativity lets users establish and alter design intent before, during, or after the assembly design process. Manufacturing dimensions on 2D drawings can be automatically transferred to the corresponding imported 3D model. Using its integrated simulation application, the software includes new torque and bearing loads, user-defined constraints, and new options for connecting assemblies such as bolt and sheet metal edge connectors. The program uses Microsoft SharePoint® 2010 to extend collaboration through project management, business analytics, and social media capabilities.
