The MS-2500 stage from Applied Scientific Instrumentation (Eugene, OR) provides 100 mm of Yaxis travel and 250 mm of X-axis travel, and works on existing inverted microscopes. Custom configurations are available, including front-loading stages with over 300 mm of Y-axis travel. The stage accepts standard 160 × 110 mm or wide 283 × 110 mm stage inserts. All axes derive their control through a closed-loop DC servomotor with high-resolution encoders for positioning feedback. The XY stage uses crossed-roller slides, lead screws, and zero-backlash miniature geared DC servomotors for accurate motion. The stages come standard with rotary encoders with resolution of 100 nm and bidirectional repeatability better than 800 nm rms. Controller options include rack mount, compact tabletop, and OEM board level. The controllers accept industry-standard commands, provide automatic backlash correction, and allow RS-232 and USB communication with a host computer.
