Dewetron, Wakefield, RI, has introduced the TrendCorder series of instruments designed for basic data acquisition applications in industry. They feature intuitive, multi-touch operation, enabling them to be operated 100% by touch, including alphanumeric entry, channel setup, and display configuration. When the instrument is turned on, an app loads and shows incoming data immediately. The DejaVIEW™ feature enables a user to scroll back on the recorder graph to any place in the recording, and pinch/zoom on the graph to see any detail, no matter how far back in time, without interrupting current recording. This is designed for operators conducting long-term testing that cannot be interrupted. The instruments feature a 15.4" wide aspect multi-touch display, and data is streamed continuously to disk at rates up to 200 MB/s. The TrendCorder has four slots for TRION series plug-in modules. Three 6-channel modules are included in the TRC-18, with one slot free; the TRC-6 has one 6-channel module, with three slots free. The system weighs 18.7 pounds, including the input modules.

High-Power Laser Fiber Packaging

OSI Laser Diode, Inc. (LDI) (Edison, NJ), an OSI Systems Company, has introduced new packaging options for the CVD High Power Laser line. The innovative and compact package features coaxial cable construction, which permits a fiber option for lasers in a much smaller footprint than the standard TO5F housing. LDI’s new fiber coaxial packaging is available for 850 nm, 905 nm, and 1550 nm single-chip and stacked devices.

Single Crystal Chemical Vapor Deposition Diamond

Element Six (Santa Clara, CA) recently announced that its high-purity single crystal chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond material has been proven for use in intracavity cooling of disc lasers and in development of the first ever tunable diamond Raman laser system. Element Six’s high-purity single crystal CVD diamond has the highest thermal conductivity of any material at room temperature (up to 2200 W/mK). Combined with low absorption coefficient at a number of key wavelengths, the material gave the University of Strathclyde the ability to demonstrate the first ever tunable, continuous-wave diamond raman laser. Furthermore, photonics and laser manufacturer M Squared Lasers recently leveraged Element Six’s CVD diamond in a patented technique as a key enabler in its Dragonfly semiconductor laser.

Optical Fiber Cleaver

NYFORS (Stockholm, Sweden) has introduced a new high-precision optical fiber cleaver that accommodates fiber diameters from 80 μm up to more than 400 μm. The new AutoCleaver LDF-M‘ is specifically designed to provide fast and reliable high-quality cleaving capability for the mid-span to large diameter fibers commonly used in fiber laser manufacturing and other specialty fiber applications. Based on the well-known AutoCleaver‘ platform, this is a fully automated optical fiber cleaver for production and laboratory settings with a cycle time of less than 15 seconds. Flat and smooth fiber end faces, free of surface defects such as hackles, mist, and chips, are produced with high consistency thanks to the stable mechanical design and proven tension-and-scribe cleaving process.
