Molded Glass Lenses

Moulded Optics GmbH (Schoffengrund, Germany) offers single-sided rod and blank-molded aspheric lenses made of crown, borosilicate, and high-refractive glass materials in diameter sizes from 2 mm to 100 mm. The aspheric first surface is molded and the spherical second surface is either ground and polished or molded. The lenses are suitable for laser diode collimating and focusing, digital projection, and microscopic measurement. Also available are molded half-ball lenses made from B270, borosilicate, and F2 class materials, available in diameter sizes of 3, 4, 5, and 6 mm, with standard, truncated, and extended center thickness. The hemisphere first surface is molded and the plano second surface is ground and polished. Applications include LED lighting, fiber communications, endoscopy, microscopy, optical pickup devices, and laser measurement systems.

Toroidal Roller Bearings

Serving as non-locating bearings in large electric motors, SKF USA’s (Kulpsville, PA) CARB® toroidal roller bearings accommodate heavy radial loads and compensate for misalignment. Suitable for both coupled and belted loads, the bearings offer users a single bearing solution for motors, regardless of mounting method. The self-aligning bearings adjust for axial expansion of the shaft internally while self-guiding rollers maximize load capacity. The bearings reduce skidding on raceways, enabling their use on coupled motors with relatively light loads. A range of sizes is available with seals and optional cages. Custom designs are also available.

Linear Actuator

The DGEA cantilever electric linear actuator from Festo Corp. (Hauppauge, NY) is designed so the slide unit remains stationary while the profile moves axially. Suited for space-contained, multi-axis configurations, the motor and cables remain fixed, minimizing the moving mass to just the load and aluminum profile. The toothed belt-driven actuator with an internal recirculating ball bearing guide comes in two mounting configurations: the basic, in-line coupling model, or with an integrated right-angle gearbox. The unit allows direct mounting of end effectors such as grippers, rotary drives, and vacuum components, and increases system dynamics by reducing the effective moving load. As the motor cables remain stationary, cable fatigue is eliminated. Features include speed to 3m/sec, stroke lengths to 1,000 mm, and 18-, 25-, and 40-mm sizes.

Contouring Control

The TNC 320 contouring control from Heindenhain Corp. (Schaumburg, IL) features the ability to control five axes, an analog drive interface for interfacing to existing drive systems, and one-piece construction, the device sports a 15" TFT color flat-panel display (1024 x 768 pixels). The unit’s main computer contains several onboard cycles to simplify most machining operations such as drilling, probing, and milling. The compact flash memory card withstands vibration and shock, stores the PLC program and commissioning information, and offers more memory for NC files. Data interfaces include RS-232, USB, and Ethernet. G-code programming is possible with the addition of a USB keyboard.
