Motor Driver

Allegro MicroSystems (Worcester, MA) has announced the A1441 full-bridge motor driver designed to drive single-phase, low-voltage, bipolar brushless DC motors. Commutation of the motor is achieved by the use of one Hall element to detect the position of an alternating pole ring magnet. The IC semiconductor process enables the integration of Hall element on the same IC as the motor control circuitry.

Collet Chuck

Lexair (Lexington, KY) has announced the Lexair/ Production Dynamics Full Bore® chuck, a mechanical-grip, air-release, front-mounted collet chuck designed to make the full spindle bore available to handle larger bar stock. The design eliminates the conventional draw tube and external actuator. Air is used only to open the chuck. Spring force holds the workpiece while it is being machined, and the part remains clamped even if air pressure is lost. Since clamping force is constant regardless of spindle speed, higher speeds can be reached during machining. Clamping force is adjustable by tightening or loosening the collet using the spanner holes.

Product of the Month: Broadband Mirror

Semrock (Rochester, NY) offers the ultra-broadband MaxMirror in a 2-in. (50.4 mm) diameter version. According to the manufacturers, the 2-in. mirror is designed for use in imaging systems or for the delivery of large optical beams, and has greater than 99% reflectivity for all wavelengths from 350 nm to 1100 nm, any polarization state, and for all angles of incidence from 0° to 50° simultaneously. The MaxMirror is useful in applications that call for steering a diverse range of wavelengths of arbitrary polarization, including multi-wavelength laser systems such as Nd:YAG lasers operating at 1064 nm, 532 nm, and 355 nm. System examples include Ti:Sapphire-laser-based analytical systems, such as confocal microscopes, that use the excitation of higher harmonics or multiphoton fluorescence in the visible and the near-UV.
