2.8 MP USB 3.0 Scientific Imaging Camera

Point Grey (Richmond, BC) announced a new addition to the Grasshopper3 scientific imaging camera family that features high quality, high resolution CCD sensors with a USB 3.0 interface. The new Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-28S5 camera models are based on color and monochrome versions of the fast and highly sensitive Sony ICX674, a 2/3" CCD featuring 4.54 micron square pixels and capable of sending 1932 x 1452 images at 26 FPS. The ICX674 sensor supports high definition (HD) 1080p30 imaging and uses Sony's EXview HAD CCD II™ technology—a further evolved version of the well-known EXview HAD CCD™ technology—to improve quantum efficiency and increase sensitivity, including into the near infrared. The GS3-U3-28S5 offers quantum efficiency of 67% at 525 nm, a dynamic range of 63 dB, dark current of 1.27 e-/second, and supports long exposures up to 30 seconds.

Dual-Band Photodetector

GPD Optoelectronics Corp. (Salem, NH) has announced the availability of made-toorder Dual-Band photodetectors. Two discrete photodiodes are mounted in a stack such that the incoming light is sensed by both diodes. The design can be optimized for detection of light from the visible to mid-IR.

Photothermal Excitation For Atomic Force Microscopy

Asylum Research (Santa Barbara, CA), an Oxford Instruments company, has announced blueDrive photothermal excitation, an option available exclusively for Asylum’s Cypher™ Atomic Force Microscopes (AFMs). blueDrive makes tapping mode imaging simple, stable, and accurate. blueDrive replaces the conventional piezoacoustic excitation mechanism, instead using a blue laser to directly excite the AFM cantilever photothermally. This results in an ideal cantilever drive response in both air and liquids, which provides significant performance and ease of use benefits for tapping mode imaging.

DOP Meter

Using a patented maximum & minimum search technique, the DOP- 201 from General Photonics (Chino, CA) measures and displays the Degree of Polarization (DOP) of a light source in real time with high accuracy and wide dynamic range. While polarimeter-based systems are expensive and can be inaccurate for low-DOP sources, and polarization scrambler- based instruments are less accurate for high DOP sources, the DOP-201 accurately measures both low and high DOP. It is ideal for characterizing the performances of depolarizers and depolarized light sources, such as ASE and SLED sources and the pumps for Raman amplifiers.

Product of the Month: The RVG200 Videographic Data Recorder

ABB, Warminster, PA, has introduced the RVG200 videographic data recorder with touchscreen technology. The recorder provides easy access to process data for onsite operators, while enabling secure remote access to the same data from any tablet, smartphone, PC, or other networked device. Using iconbased menus or by swiping through the screens, operators can find the process data they need and view it in formats such as individual or grouped charts, bar graphs, or digital indicator displays. The unit is integrated into a plant network through a 100-Mbit/s Ethernet connection. The recorder can notify operators via email of process alarms or critical process events, automatically sent to their PC or smartphone. It can also be configured to routinely email summary reports of process conditions. Up to 24 universal analog inputs enable direct connection of mA, mV, TC, RTD, voltage, and digital signals. Front and rear USB ports permit users to connect a variety of peripheral devices such as a USB memory drive.
