Asphere Measurement System

The AspheroCheck UP from TRIOPTICS (Weden, Germany) is designed with a completely automated measurement process that requires no manual interaction to accurately measure aspheres. Lenses with aspherical surfaces are frequently used in small, light, high-performance optics to reduce spherical aberration. While the decentration of an aspherical surface can be determined with the centration measurement that is also used for spherical lenses, determining a possible tilt requires an additional, off-axial test.

Photoluminescence Spectrometer (PRIORITY)

Edinburgh Instruments (Kirkton Campus, UK) introduces the FLS1000 state-of-the-art, modular photoluminescence spectrometer. The instrument excels in both steady state and time-resolved spectroscopy. It can be configured for spectral measurements from the ultraviolet to the mid-infrared spectral range, and for lifetime measurements spanning time resolutions over 12 orders of magnitude from picoseconds to seconds. Its ultimate sensitivity for the standard water Raman measurement is >30,000:1.

High Efficiency Double Spot Beam Splitter

LASER COMPONENTS (Bedford, NH) has introduced the HEDS (High Efficiency Double Spot) beam splitter. Double spot beam splitters are diffractive optical elements (DOE) used for separating an incoming laser beam into two identical beams. They are most commonly used in lithography as well as high power applications such as cutting and perforation. Until now, a small portion of light was lost in higher diffraction orders. Some applications cannot tolerate even a 1% loss, so this DOE boasts an efficiency well above the standard value of 81%. HEDS is available in wavelengths between 193 nm and 10.6 µm.

Laser Diode Modules

BEA Lasers (Elk Grove Village, IL) has introduced two new low-profile additions to their rugged MIL Series of laser diode modules. The new MIL RA Model features a right angle, and the new MIL Compact Model features a straight housing. Both new models utilize a low profile 3/8” rugged laser housing, fitted with a M12 connector, 2 meter long PVC jacketed cable, and integrated power supply. The optional sensor-style bracket, or multi-adjustable “LB” bracket, completes the laser system. The new MIL Series laser diode modules are offered with standard 515nm (green) or standard 635nm (red), with 1mW or 5mW.

Diffuse Reflectance Probe

The Ocean Optics (Dunedin, FL) Diffuse Reflectance Probe (DR-Probe) measures 45° diffuse reflectance, enhancing UV-Vis and NIR spectroscopy results. The DR-Probe integrates a light source and collection optics into one unit. With the probe’s collection optics fixed in place relative to the light source, the measurement geometry is constant. An included standoff accessory ensures a consistent 40 mm focal length between the probe and the sample. The DR-Probe has rugged, all-metal construction for durability, and its 6W tungsten halogen bulb has a 10,000-hour lifetime.
