High-Voltage, Asymmetric-Waveform Generator
new!
Date added: 09/01/2008 |
The shapes of waveforms generated by commercially available analytical separation devices, such as some types of mass spectrometers and differential mobility spectrometers are, in general, inadequate and result in resolution degradation in output spectra. A waveform generator was designed that would be able to circumvent these shortcomings. |

Magic-T Junction Using Microstrip/Slotline Transitions
new!
Date added: 09/01/2008 |
The design of a broadband planar magic-T using microstrip-slotline transitions is proposed. The design
implements a small microstrip-slotline tee junction with minimum size slotline terminations to reduce
radiation loss. The experimental results show that the magic-T provides more than 70% of operating bandwidth with the average in-band insertion loss of less than 0.6 dB. It also has phase and amplitude imbalance of less than ±1° and ±0.25 dB, respectively. |

Electronic Switch Arrays for Managing Microbattery Arrays
Date added: 08/01/2008 |
This invention discloses a new technique for electronic charging and control of an array of micro-batteries or other energy storage elements. It is primarily designed for control of micro batteries and can be extended for control of other energy storage elements like capacitor arrays. |

Broadband Microstrip-to-Coplanar Strip Double-Y Balun
Date added: 08/01/2008 |
This work describes the design of a broadband balun employing a double-Y junction that transitions from an unbalanced microstrip line to a balanced coplanar strip line. Advantages of such a transition include: low metal content, ease of fabrication, and broadband performance. |

Tone-Based Command of Deep Space Probes Using Ground Antennas
Date added: 08/01/2008 |
This technique reduces the cost of deep space operations by enabling the use of small aperture ground antennas to control spacecraft during the cruise phase. With the proposed system, it is possible to use ground antennas of the 5-to-10-meter class. |

Date added: 07/01/2008 |
Current brushless motor position sensors are based on magnetic measurement with many Hall probes distributed at equally spaced angular positions. The proposed motor position sensor is based on capacitive measurement using a single tunnel-diode oscillator. |

Making a Back-Illuminated Imager With Back-Side Contact and Alignment Markers
Date added: 07/01/2008 |
A new method for bringing metal pads to the backside is presented. This allows pads to reside on the illumination side, solving a key packaging problem for back-side thinned imagers. |

Impact-Locator Sensor Panels
Date added: 07/01/2008 |
A Strike Detector was developed that indicates the location where an impact has taken place. Such a system would be useful for various applications, including spacecraft concerned about particle strikes, to military vehicles in tactical situations, to transportation companies that want to monitor the environment surrounding their shipments. |
