The linear polymer, poly-4-vinylpyridine, has been quaternized to yield bisulfate and acid phosphate salts. Mechanically stable membranes have been prepared from poly-4-vinylpyridinebisulfate (P4VPBS). The proton conductivity has been measured and the suitability of such membranes for fuel cells has been demonstrated. This type of "poly salt" is a model electrolyte system for high temperature fuel cell applications. |
