In oil field tests over 18 months, Direct Current Electrical Stimulation has shown up to a 10X increase in oil production for deep, heavy oil. The predominant method for recovering heavy oil is steam, but steam is limited to depths of 2,500 feet. There are no inherent depth limitations to Direct Current Electrical Stimulation. This patented technology — electrically enhanced oil recovery — uses direct current electricity to both heat and electrochemically upgrade the oil in situ, allowing for economical recovery.

ImageThe technology can be implemented incrementally, without the need for a single, major expenditure. Ideally, a partner with access to several oil fields is sought to perform multiple tests, test a variety of system components, understand how much oil can be produced, understand how enhanced the oil can be made in situ, and perfect the go-to-market system.
