Technology is required to enable “in-process” or real-time detection of defects during the welding process. This could be achieved by a system that can monitor any combination of accessible parameters during the weld process and then by analyzing changes, ascertain the presence of a weld defect, its locations, and, if possible, its nature. Potential solutions should be suitable for industrial production lines.
