Live Presentation:
Wed., Sept., 17, 2008 2:00 PM EDT

Lubricants are often an after-thought in the design of severe-duty components for industrial, automotive, aerospace or other applications. Engineers often rely on traditional lubricants during the initial design stage. When these systems fail in performance testing, design engineers realize that a premium-performing lubricant, such as DuPont™ Krytox® PFPE (perfluoropolyether), is required to meet system performance and life-time requirements.

With DuPont™ Krytox® PFPE lubricants, design engineers can integrate high performance and longevity into critical components during those critical stages of design. Building on the information presented in our previous webinar, we will discuss some more of the specific strengths of the DuPont™ Krytox® product lines.

In this webinar, we will:
  • Review strengths of PFPE-based lubricants
  • Explore performance attributes of Krytox® custom-formulated products
  • Dispel mythso on PFPE performance weaknesses
  • Discuss appropriate analytical techniques when used with PFPE lubricants

Speaker: Carl Walther, Senior Technical Service Engineer

H. Carl Walther received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1984. After graduation, Carl worked for Conoco Inc. in their lubricants and fuels division in a technical sales support role where he also provided product development support. For the last 6 years of service with Conoco, Carl was the lead Lubrication Engineer for their Mining Services division based in Denver, Colorado.

In 1998, Carl joined the DuPont Performance Lubricants as a Senior Technical Service Engineer. Carl’s responsibilities have varied from production support and quality control to technical support of multiple product/market segments. Carl is currently focused primarily in the automotive and aerospace market segments with a concentration in new product and application development.

Carl is an active member with SAE (Society of Aerospace Engineers) International and the STLE (Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers) and has presented papers for the AIST (Association for Iron and Steel Technology) and Noria Lubrication Excellence annual meetings.
