Being able to bring the 3D scanner to the part instead of vice versa enables new applications in reverse engineering, manufacturing, health care, cultural heritage, and even arts and entertainment. New, handheld 3D scanners bypass the the expense, bulkiness, and inconvenience of traditional equipment.
