Wired and Wireless Connectivity on One Single-Board Computer

WinSystems (Arlington, TX) has introduced the LBC-GX500, a singleboard computer based on the AMD GX500@1W processor, designed for machine-to-machine connectivity. The board is a Pentium-class CPU with an x86- native instruction set and 32KB of integrated L1 cache that runs Windows CE/XP Embedded, as well as Linux, VxWorks, and QNX. It features various wired and wireless connectivity options such as 802.11 wireless Ethernet, GSM/ GPRS cellular modem, CDMA cellular modem, and a ZigBee wireless RF module. It also includes a 10/100 wired Ethernet port, global- compliant dial-up modem, six USB ports, and six COM channels. The LBC-GX500 measures 5.75 × 8" and provides an open platform for management of geographically distributed machinery and sensors that operates over an industrial temperature range from -40º to 85ºC.

Desktop 3D Scanner

NextEngine, Santa Monica, CA, offers the Desktop 3D Scanner, a full-color multi-laser scanner that scans complex shapes for CAD and 3D design applications on the desktop. About the size of a cereal box, the scanner connects directly to a PC via USB 2.0. It operates with proprietary MultiStripe Laser Triangulation (MLT) technology that features twin arrays of four Class 1M 10-mW solid-state lasers with custom optics at a 650-nm wavelength. The scanner also features twin 3-megapixel CMOS RGB image sensors, optically synchronous RGB color texture capture, and built-in spatially diverse white-light texture illuminators. Full-color photo data is captured for each surface point, and there is no preset limit for the size of objects to be scanned. Objects larger than 5.1 x 3.8" in macro mode and 13.5 x 10.1" in wide mode can be composite-captured with supplied ScanStudio(tm) software. The unit has throughput of 50,000 processed points per second, and comes with an AutoPositioner(tm) to capture multiple surfaces of objects, and a PartGripper(tm) to secure objects during scanning. On-Chip Debugging Emulator (Renesas Technology America)

Renesas Technology America, Inc. (San Jose, CA) offers the E8a emulator, an onchip debugging emulator for developing embedded systems that use Renesas microcontrollers. It allows referencing and modification of memory, on-chip I/O, and memory contents while a program is being executed. The tool allows C source-level debugging to be carried out with a microcontroller in the M16C, H8/Tiny, or H8/Super Low Power series, operating at full speed in the system. The device also can be used as a programmer to load code into the internal flash memory of many Renesas microcontroller families. The programming voltage range is 1.8 to 5 V, and the unit features a clock oscillator to enable asynchronous communication in line with a microcontroller’s operating frequency. The case measures 92 × 42 × 15 mm.

3D Laser-Scanning Sensor

Perceptron (Plymouth, MI) offers the ScanWorks® hand-held 3D laser scanner that features a scanning rate of up to 458,000 points per second and can maintain a dense point resolution of approximately 14 microns. The device projects the sensor’s field of view onto the target scanning area to visualize the best scanning strategy, and may be used on dark or highly reflective surfaces. The scanning software includes a MS Windows XP-style interface, intelligent sensor calibration, real-time point shading, and automatic exposure control. Intelligent Density Management (IDMTM) monitors incoming data and limits scan data generation in low-interest areas for faster throughput.

The user-friendly software packages are used for viewing, administrating, calibrating, filtering, and managing large, 3D point clouds collected with the FARO Laser Scanner LS — a computerized measurement device that creates a high-resolution, 3-D, digital “photograph” by scanning everything in its 360° path as far as 76 m away. Beam Shaper

SCHOTT North America (Elmsford, NY) offers the Beam Shaper laser technology, capable of shaping “square” light from an individual laser diode or rows of strings of laser diodes into a beam of light that has a round profile and offers homogeneous light dissemination. Two versions are available: for individual laser diodes with outputs up to 1 W, the shaper is cylindrical; for bars consisting of dozens of laser diodes with a total output of tens of watts, the unit is equipped with a paddle-shaped end that matches the geometry of the diode bar. Both versions provide an output of 90%. Wavelengths range from 400 to 1,700 nm.
