Software Verification Plug-In

LDRA (Monks Ferry, Wirral, UK) has released the TBsecure plug-in complete with the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI) CERT C secure coding standard. TBsecure identifies security vulnerabilities and enables implementation of the CERT C Secure Coding Standard version 1.0. LDRA’s TBsecure plugs into TBvision, a module within the LDRA tool suite that enables developers to easily see how the source code performs against security vulnerabilities, fault-detection, and adherence to the required quality standards. As its primary role, TBsecure applies the CERT C secure coding rules and relays findings to TBvision, which graphically shows code quality, fault detection, and avoidance measures through call graphs, flow graphs, and code review reports.

The CERT C Secure Coding Standard provides rules and recommendations for secure coding in the C programming language, in order to eliminate insecure coding practices and undefined behaviors that lead to exploitable vulnerabilities. The application of the secure coding standard leads to higher quality systems that are robust and more resistant to attack. Rules and recommendations included in this CERT C Programming Language Secure Coding Standard are designed to be operating system and platform independent. Once established, these standards can be used as a metric to evaluate source code using an automated process.

RTU Datalogger

The IPm2m® RTU and Datalogger from SIXNET (Ballston Lake, NY) combines RTU (Remote Terminal Unit), datalogger, and telemetry interface in a compact, installation-ready package. The IPm2m has a full complement of communication ports with an Ethernet, RS232, RS485, and USB. This flexible port configuration makes it ideal for connecting to devices in a remote location. Each port supports SIXNET and Modbus protocol along with DNP3 slave. A diverse mixture of discrete and analog I/O is well-suited for remote monitor and control of various instruments.

Datalogging memory of 32MB in flash or dynamic memory provides space to save data that can be accessed at any time. Uninterruptible power protection supplies backup power from a central location to each distributed Etherbus® I/O module using a single Etherbus Fieldbus cable. The Etherbus PoE supply feature will keep the module communicating and powering critical instrumentation during a power failure. IPm2m provides the means to connect remotely to bring real-time data from distributed locations to the Internet or into central information servers. The RTU datalogger is ideal for remote machineto- machine applications such as environmental monitoring, energy/facility management, critical equipment monitoring, resource tracking and control, automated field service, and security systems.

McPherson, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA) has released the 251MX x-ray and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) spectrometer, for wavelength dispersive spectral measurements from 0.6 to 20nm (60 to 2000eV). The 251MX provides corrected, flat field spectra with its selection of specially designed diffraction gratings. Data is acquired quickly and easily with direct-detection charge coupled detectors (CCDs). The 251MX is suitable for applications such as soft x-ray plasma diagnostics, analysis of high order harmonic generated coherent EUV lasers, characterization of extreme ultraviolet sources for high resolution imaging, and advanced semiconductor lithography processes.

Benchtop Optical Meter

Supercontinuum Fiber Laser

Fianium (Southampton, UK) has developed a supercontinuum (SC) fiber laser based on its proprietary high-performance photonic crystal fiber (PCF) design. SC lasers, based on the PCF design, offer true white spectrum covering the entire 390nm-2400nm band. They also deliver greater power in the visible 400nm - 700nm part of the spectrum, compared to lasers based on conventional PCF, enabling wavelength tunability with enhanced spectral brightness. The performance of the SC lasers does not degrade over time.
