Phantom® V7.3

Vision Research, Wayne, NJ, has introduced an upgraded version of the Phantom® V7.3 digital high-speed camera that allows users to capture 500,000 pictures per second. The camera has two operating modes. In standard mode, users can capture images between 6,700 frames per second (fps) and 190,000 fps, and can adjust exposure programmable to 1/framerate. In turbo mode, the camera acquires images up to 500,000 fps at a resolution of 32×16 and with a fixed 1-microsecond exposure time. Users can switch between modes by using Phantom software that comes with the camera. Optical Time Domain Reflectometer

Luna Technologies (Roanoke, VA) has announced the Optical Backscatter Reflectometer (OBRTM) 4400, an optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) that can diagnose, locate, and troubleshoot problems in fiber optic components and assemblies such as splices, breaks, connectors, bends, and hot-spots. The OBR 4400 features micrometer spatial resolution, range to 2 km, and sensitivity of -130 dB. Integrated distributed sensing capability enables users to view the effects from component-level heating in optical amplifiers, monitor temperature inside cabinets and enclosures, and identify the location of fiber assemblies by touching the fiber. Modular LED Test System

Edmund Optics (Barrington, NJ) has released the MLED modular LED test and measurement systems available in three configurations for making measurements on discrete LEDs, arrays, and assemblies. The MLED-2 version includes a 2-inch diameter integrating sphere with a ½-inch diameter input port for making measurements on discrete devices. The MLED-6 system includes the MLED-2 along with a 6-inch integrating sphere assembly, and is suitable for intensity measurements of LEDs and for flux measurements of LED assemblies up to 1.5-inch in diameter. The MLED-12 system consists of the MLED-2 base and a 12-inch integrating sphere with 4-inch diameter port, and is suitable for flux measurements of larger LED assemblies and arrays. The MLED base systems consist of a 2048-element CCD spectrometer, an internal calibration lamp with power supply, and a set of three calibrated neutral density filters. The CCD spectrometer offers a resolution of 1.5 nm with 0.5 nm accuracy over a range of 350 to 1000 nm. The detector can measure luminous flux to 200 lumens using the OD2 filter. Exposure time ranges from 5 ms to 3 sec and stray light is 0.05% at 600 nm.

Continuous Wave Laser

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors (Regensburg, Germany) has introduced a continuous wave laser offering thermal resistance of 2.5 K/W, an output of up to 6W, and a footprint measuring 6.0mm × 4.5 mm. It emits light at a wavelength of 810 nm through a prism that directs the laser’s light upwards. These capabilities allow the CW laser to be placed in any location on a circuit board. Operating temperature ranges from -40° to 100°C and the thermal conductivity of its base allows the laser unit to be soldered directly onto a metal core board. The system is suitable for volume applications such as night vision systems, closed circuit television, traffic monitoring, and medical applications.
