DRIVE-CLiQ is Siemens’ communication protocol for motor feedback in a SINAMICS drive system. It is an Ethernet-based interface for connection of different kinds of components like motors, frequency converters, and encoders.

Torque Transducers

HBM (Marlborough, MA) offers the T40B and T40FM torque transducers that include an integrated speed measurement system. They are designed to work in harsh environments such as those that contain humidity, condensation, dust, oil, and grease. The transducers take measurements based on the contactless sensing of an anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensor, so the transducer signal is more stable than that of an optical system. Eurocard-Based Subrack Systems

Verotec (Derry, NH) supports the Eurocard standard with its KM6 family of subracks. For light and medium duty general-purpose applications, Verotec’s KM6-II, which meets the requirements of DIN41494 and IEC 60297, features two- screw fixing of all tiebars to give an exceptionally rigid assembly. It is available in heights of 3, 4, 6 and 9U, widths of 24, 42, 60 and 84HP and depths of 160, 240, 300, 360 and 420mm. The KM6-HD subrack system is designed for military and transport application where a rugged system offering resistance to shock and vibration is required. Built to meet MIL-STD-167, its features include positive guide retention, heavy two screw fixing tiebars, 3mm thick side plates and rack angles with a conductive finish throughout. The KM6-HD subrack accepts standard Eurocards in 3, 6 and 9U heights with depths of up to 400mm.

Serial PCIe MiniCard

Diamond Systems (Mountain View, CA) has introduced a rugged, low cost 4-port multiprotocol opto-isolated serial port module in the popular PCIe MiniCard form factor measuring 30 x 51mm. The DS-MPE-SER4OPT offers 4 RS-232/RS-485 opto-isolated serial ports. Each port offers 16C550 compatibility and ultra-deep 256-byte TX/RX FIFOs. Maximum data rates are 1Mbps in RS-232 mode and 10Mbps in RS-485 mode. The board is available preconfigured for 4 RS-232 ports, 4 RS-485 ports, or a combination of 2 RS-232 and 2 RS-485 ports. I/O signals are provided on two miniature latching connectors, with 2 ports per connector. Each pair of serial ports on the DS-MPE-SER4OPT offers up to 500V isolation from the system ground. Extended temperature capability of -40°C to +85°C enables the board to operate in environments with extreme temperature swings, such as vehicles or outdoor installations. In addition, the board may be custom-configured with 0-ohm resistors in place of jumper blocks for increased ruggedness in high-vibration environments.

Low-Voltage Power Supplies

TDK Corporation (San Diego, CA) has extended its GWS500 series power supplies with the addition of two low output voltage models: a 5V 80A and a 7.5V 67A unit. The GWS series is a 400W to 500W AC/DC, forced air-cooled power supply that achieves up to 90% efficiency. Featuring a 4.1 x 8.6 inch footprint and 1.6 inch height, the GWS500 now offers six models with nominal outputs of 5V, 7.5V, 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V. To accommodate non-standard system voltages the GWS500's output is user-adjustable, either via the built- in adjustment potentiometer or by injecting an external programming voltage. Where peak power is needed, for example for motor start-up, the 24V and 36V models can deliver up to 600W for 10 seconds. The supply can be operated at full load from -25 to +50°C ambient temperature and up to +70°C with suitable derating.
