2 GHz RF Source

Crystek Microwave (Fort Meyers, FL) has announced the release of a 2 GHZ RF Source, the CRFS75-2000. Crystek designed the module using proprietary circuitry and SAW (surface acoustic wave) resonator technology to provide ultra-low jitter/phase noise performance with true SineWave output. The resulting source features -134 dBc/Hz phase noise at 10 KHz offset and a noise floor of -164 dBc/Hz. Crystek's CRFS75-2000 comes in a 0.75 in. x 0.75 in SMT package. With 5 V input voltage, it generates a true-sinewave with +5 dBm min. output power. The new source has no sub-harmonics; second harmonic is -20 dBc typical. Frequency accuracy is rated at +/- 150 ppm. The CRFS75- 2000 operates from -40°C to +85°C.

Ohmite Manufacturing (Arlington Heights, IL)recently introduced their high performance C40 Heatsink System with modular cooling benefits. Designed to provide engineers with a variety of cooling options, the C40 heatsinks feature flexible board mounted modular assembly that can be used in conjunction with up to four TO-247 and TO-264 power resistors, or similarly packaged passive and active components. These 58mm heatsinks can be used individually or in compact paired configurations. Patented camming clips (sold separately) easily secure the devices in place without the need for holes or screws. In order to create active cooling and enhance their thermal capacity in back-to-back paired operations, the C40 heatsinks include pre- configured mounting holes to accommodate a standard 40mm x 40mm fan.

Molex Incorporated (Lisle, IL) has announced a high-performance connector system designed specifically to enable PCB developers in the video, commercial broadcast and telecommunications industries to transfer multiple RF signals across mated boards in a single assembly while taking into consideration space constraints. The RF DIN 1.0/2.3 Modular Backplane System features a unique bracket housing design, which enables an expansion capability of up to 10 ports for increased orthogonal PCB mating flexibility. The modular board-to-board system offers multiple options including a standard four port, 75 Ohm contact version or customizable six, eight and 10 ports with 50 Ohm contacts. The DIN 1.0/2.3 interface allows up to 1.00 mm of axial engagement tolerance.

Tunable Light Sources

Oriel(R) Instruments (Stratford, CT) has introduced the new fully integrated TLS Series Tunable Light Source. The system delivers up to 0.6 nm resolution of monochromatic light in a broad tunable spectral range from 250 nm to 2,400 nm. The Oriel TLS systems are mounted on a 12”x24” baseplate and feature a research series light source, a motorized filter wheel with four order sorting filters, as well as a 1/8m monochromator with two multiple fixed slit wheels and two 600 l/mm gratings. The integrated TracQ(TM) software package for PC-based system command and data acquisition is also part of the standard system. Oriel Instruments offers three models of fully integrated TLS systems, namely 75W Xenon, 300W Xenon, and 250W Quartz Tungsten Halogen lamp based systems.

Optical Chopper/Shutter

Electro-Optical Products Corp. (New York, NY)has introduced the Model CH-62 Optical Chopper/Shutter, a low cost variable low frequency device (DC to 25Hz) that consists of a blade mounted on a motor with a limited rotation angle. Current in one direction will set the chopper to the open position and current in the other direction will set the chopper to the close position. Using our DCH-62 driver with the “MODE” selector switch provides two modes of operation for the CH-62 chopper/shutter. In the internal mode the CH-62 is used as a variable low frequency chopper. The chopping frequency is set by an internal oscillator adjustable from 1 Hz to 25 Hz. In the external mode the CH-62 is used as a chopper or as a shutter and is controlled by an external TTL signal input. “High” input keeps the CH-62 open, “Low” input keeps it closed. Response time is 10 msec. Maximum frequency for TTL input is 25Hz.

Diode Lasers

TRUMPF Inc. (Farmington, CT) has introduced the next generation of TruDiode lasers. The two newest additions to TRUMPF’s diode laser product line are the TruDiode 151, a 150 watt fiber-coupled laser and the TruDiode 301 which supplies 300 watts of laser power to the work piece. Wavelength range is between 920 – 970nm with CW or modulated CW up to 3kHz. Both lasers feature a 150μm core diameter TRUMPF LLK but are available with LLK core diameters of up to 600 μm. The two output external beam switch with a single safety circuit is also an option. In addition, customers may choose between a 19 inch rack mount laser unit or 19 inch rack cabinet with central power distribution and self- contained chiller.
