Laser Components (Hudson, NH) offers solid state laser coatings with high damage thresholds, including coatings for Q-switched lasers at 1064 nm, 532 nm, 355 nm, or 266 nm. Coatings for short pulse lasers at 800 nm also exhibit excellent damage thresholds. The damage threshold measurement values were determined using a 780 nm Spectra Physics laser, featuring 1 kHz repetition rate and 140 fs pulse length, according to ISO 11254-2.

Highly Aspheric Mirrors and Lenses

Optical Surfaces Ltd (Surrey, UK) can generate highly aspheric parabolic mirrors with off-axis angles approaching 30 degrees and focal lengths as short as 100mm. They can also fabricate high-performance aspheric lenses with tight tolerances. Excellent performance is achieved with low surface scatter (20-10 scratch-dig) and high surface accuracy (lambda/20). The complex surface profile of aspheres offers excellent correction of spherical aberration and reduces other optical aberrations compared to a simple lens or mirror. On-axis parabolic mirrors produce collimated reflected light and are used in applications that require very fast focusing and high energy densities. Off-axis parabolic mirrors provide an unobstructed aperture allowing complete access to the focal region.

Toshiba Teli America (Irvine, CA) has introduced the CS8581QF, a remote-head FireWire camera system for high-speed industrial imaging. The CS8581QF offers 133 fps at full 640 × 480 resolution (8bit monochrome), and partial scan modes over 430 fps. Based on a 1/3-inch progressive scan CCD, the CS8581QF features 7.4μm square pixels, an electronic shutter (1/50,000 to 2 sec), and random trigger shutter. The CS8581QF is comprised of a remote head camera and a central control unit (CCU) that can be mounted up to 2 meters apart from each other by a cable.

RTA Polygonal Scanners

Lincoln Laser (Phoenix, AZ) has announced a new family of RTA Polygonal Scanners. You may select a precision ball bearing motor for operation from 500 to 12,000 RPM or a self-generating air bearing motor for operation from 10,000 to 55,000 RPM. Polygonal mirrors are stocked in standard sizes from 18 to 90 facets. This family of mirrors and motors covers scan rates from 150 Hz to 85 KHz. Standard mirror coatings are for Infrared lasers. For a moderate extra cost and longer lead-time, users can specify a custom mirror for these motors and associated controllers.
