High-Speed Cameras

Photron, San Diego, CA, has introduced Range Version (RV) hardware that extends the normal operating temperature range of Fast-cam SA5 and SA2 cameras. The RV option includes two serviceable external fans that direct cooling air over the sealed camera body, stabilizing the operating temperature in harsh environments. The SA5 camera provides up to 7,500 fps at reduced resolution, and has a 12-bit, monochrome, 36-bit RGB color sensor that features 20-micron square pixels. The SA2 is a 12-bit, four-megapixel CMOS camera that delivers up to 1,000 fps at full pixel resolution (2K × 2K) and 1080 HDTV resolution up to 2,000 fps. This system is available with either a PL lens or a B4 lens mount.

Machine Vision Software

PPT VISION, Bloomington, MN, has released IMPACTTM 8.5 software for machine vision applications. It reads 17 different standard barcode types, including ECC 200 DataMatrix 2D, UPC-A and UPC-E, and Pharmacode. The software is able to combine the decoded information with optical character recognition and detailed inspection routines. It includes CPM (control panel manager) and customizable HMI (human machine interface) control software. Cameras can output decoded data from barcodes or optical character recognition through serial or Ethernet ports.

Keyence IM-6000 Series

Keyence Corporation of America, Woodcliff Lake, NJ, has introduced the IM-6000 Series dimension measurement and inspection system that features pattern registration and pattern search functions for “place and press” measurement. The system eliminates the need for optical comparators, x-y stages for part positioning, CNC measuring devices, and stereo microscopes. Parts to be measured are placed on the sample tray and the measurement button is pushed. An Intelligent Pattern Analysis Search System (PASS) automatically locates, identifies, and measures parts placed anywhere within the unit’s 100-mm field of view. A Part Evaluation Library stores the images, measurement functions, and specifications of parts, and provides automatic pattern search, part recognition, and measurement without setup the next time inspection of the same parts is required. It performs up to 99 distinct measurements with one press of a button, and measures features such as angle, radius, inner/outer diameter, and circular and linear pitch. Image processing uses functions such as least square fitting and abnormal data point removal.
