Miniature M3-F Focus Module

New Scale Technologies (Victor, NY) has introduced its M3-F focus module for miniature OEM cameras used in handheld products; portable biometric sensors; targeting, surveillance and security systems; and medical diagnostic and imaging devices. At only 20 × 22 × 16 mm — about the same dimensions as a fixed lens holder — the M3-F focus module improves image quality over a wide range of focus distances without adding volume or significantly increasing power usage. All lens motion functions are fully integrated in the M3-F module including actuator, position sensor, guide mechanism, drive and control electronics and software. Modules provide millimeters of lens motion with 0.5 micrometer position resolution, better than 30 micrometer accuracy, and better than +/-1 degree angular alignment (static tip/tilt). Fluorescence Imaging Filter Sets

Semrock (Rochester, NY) has released four new optical filter sets for fluorescence imaging which enable the choice of substantially increased brightness or enhanced contrast when imaging the fluorescent labels fluorescein (FITC) and green fluorescent protein (GFP). These new BrightLine® filter sets allow the user to either minimize photo-bleaching while increasing image contrast, or receive a light boost for a noticeably brighter image, particularly in low-concentration applications such as single-molecule imaging. The single-band filter sets GFP-1828-A and FITC-2024-A offer the highest contrast of filter sets available today, while the GFP-4050-A and FITC-5050-A sets give the user the highest brightness among sets optimized for these fluorophores. 30-Die, Near-Infrared LED Array

Opto Diode Corporation (Newbury Park, CA) has developed the first in a series of high power LED arrays, the OD-850-30-030. The new 30- die near-infrared (NIR) LED array delivers more efficient operation and higher power with a narrow beam angle of 30 degrees. The device has a peak wavelength of 850nm (min. 840nm and max. 865nm) and a total optical power output of 16 watts. Thermal parameters for storage range from -40°C to 125°C, with the operating temperature range from -20°C to 100°C. Time Delay Integration Cameras

The C10000-601 and C10000-701 series TDI (time delay integration) cameras from Hamamatsu (Bridgewater, NJ) feature back-thinned CCD image sensors with 4096 horizontal pixels and 128 TDI stages (vertical pixels). Each pixel is 12 × 12 μm. Due to their back-thinned structure, the TDI-CCDs feature high sensitivity from 200nm to 1100nm with approximately 90% quantum efficiency in the 600-700nm region. The sensors also feature multiple output ports (taps) to enable high-speed line rates for high-speed imaging. There are three cameras available. The C10000-601 features 8 taps, 50 kHz maximum line rate, 800:1 dynamic range, and an 8-bit/12-bit selectable A/D converter. The C10000-701A has 16 taps, 100 kHz maximum line rate, 256:1 dynamic range, and an 8-bit A/D converter. Ultra-Low-Light Color Cameras

FLIR Systems (Wilsonville, OR) has launched its ChromaNox line of EMCCD low light security cameras. Incorporating advanced EMCCD (electron multiplied CCD) technology, the ChromaNox cameras are available in VGA (640 × 480) and SXGA (1280 × 1024) resolution, and in color and monochrome models. The cameras feature proprietary image processing algorithms to bring out hidden image details in difficult scene conditions. ChromaNox cameras meet Mil-Spec operating temperature requirements of -40°C to 71°C. A wide range of ½-inch format C-mount lenses enable both close situational awareness and long-range observation in light levels not considered possible with standard CCD and CMOS cameras. A new add-on module for Ocean Optics’ (Dunedin, FL) SpectraSuite Spectrometer Operating Software allows users of the company’s miniature spectrometers and Jaz optical sensing systems to calculate Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), an important parameter for evaluating the effect of light on plant growth. SpectraSuite-PAR uses the absolute irradiance spectrum (captured by the spectrometer) of the light incident on plants and other samples and conveniently converts the irradiance values from μW/cm2 (microwatts per square centimeter) to μmol/m2/s (micromoles per square meter per second), the measurement unit more commonly used for PAR analysis. Planet Configuration Direct Monitoring System

Leybold Optics (Cary, NC) is now offering direct monitoring on box coaters with planet (double rotation) configuration. Optical monitoring is used in optical thin film production, in addition to the conventional quartz crystal measurement. The monitor glass is located in a holder, which is fixed on the sun wheel and moves in single rotation. The radial position of the monitor glass is close to the radial position of the planet axis, which is about 300 mm out of the center.
