Product of the Month: Soft X-Ray EUV Spectrometer

McPherson, Inc. (Chelmsford, MA) has released the 251MX x-ray and extreme ultraviolet (EUV) spectrometer, for wavelength dispersive spectral measurements from 0.6 to 20nm (60 to 2000eV). The 251MX provides corrected, flat field spectra with its selection of specially designed diffraction gratings. Data is acquired quickly and easily with direct-detection charge coupled detectors (CCDs). The 251MX is suitable for applications such as soft x-ray plasma diagnostics, analysis of high order harmonic generated coherent EUV lasers, characterization of extreme ultraviolet sources for high resolution imaging, and advanced semiconductor lithography processes.

Benchtop Optical Meter

The 1928-C Single-Channel Bench-top Optical Meter from Newport (Irvine, CA) interfaces with the company’s photodiode detectors, thermopiles, and pyroelectric detectors. It has the capability of measuring from 11 pW up to 20 kW of optical power and from 7uJ to 20 kJ of pulse energy. The 100 kHz sampling rate ensures that the pulse measurements are accurate and any real fluctuations in the CW power are not ignored. The 1928-C features a highly visible color display, data storage via internal memory or USB flash drive, and an analog output interface.

Near-Infrared Photodetectors

The Siletz series of carrier multiplication devices (CMDs) from Voxtel (Beaverton, OR) are nanostructured InGaAs/ InAlAs devices that are designed to overcome the limitations of avalanche photodiodes (APDs) in the 0.9 to 1.6 micron spectral region, including the eye-safe range beyond 1.3 microns. Featuring ultra-low-noise analog optical detection up to approximately 1 GHz, and high quantum efficiency, the photodetectors are ideal for low-light-level detection.

Supercontinuum Fiber Laser

Fianium (Southampton, UK) has developed a supercontinuum (SC) fiber laser based on its proprietary high-performance photonic crystal fiber (PCF) design. SC lasers, based on the PCF design, offer true white spectrum covering the entire 390nm-2400nm band. They also deliver greater power in the visible 400nm - 700nm part of the spectrum, compared to lasers based on conventional PCF, enabling wavelength tunability with enhanced spectral brightness. The performance of the SC lasers does not degrade over time.
