Science Grade Infrared Camera

FLIR Systems (Boston, MA) has introduced the ThermoVision® SC8000 MWIR infrared camera. Capable of generating over 1.0 million pixels for a single thermal image, the SC8000 produces full window 1024×1024 14-bit data at 132 frames per second (fps). By reducing the window size, the camera offers frame rates of 309 fps at 640×512, 751 fps at 320×256, and 909 fps at 160×120. The SC8000’s camera control interface enables the user to adjust the output frame rate of the camera from .0051Hz to full frame. The SC8000 also offers a high-performance 16-channel readout that provides digital data at 205 M pixels/second; multiple camera presets; and Gigabit Ethernet, Camera Link Full, and USB interfaces. Built-in IRIG-B timing provides on-board deterministic time stamping of each frame of data, as well as advanced IRIG-B options. For Free Info Visit http://info.ims.ca/10976-228

Filter Sets for CoralHueTM Keima-Red Fluorescent Protein

Omega Optical (Brattleboro, VT) has developed three new filter sets for use with CoralHueTM Keima-Red fluorescent protein. The new filter sets include versions with both longpass and band-pass emission filters to accommodate a variety of single and multi-fluor applications. Developed by researchers at RIKEN and Hokkaido University in Japan, Keima-Red has an extremely large Stokes shift, making it very useful for tracking protein-protein interactions and for multi-fluor use in fluorescence cross-correlation spectroscopy. These features make it possible for researchers to excite two labels with a single laser for simultaneous fluorescence, resulting in the ability to track protein localization in cells, as well as for monitoring gene expression. The spectral curves of Keima-Red and its optimized filter sets are available online in Omega’s Curvomatic, an interactive database containing fluorescent probes and filter spectral data. SolidWorks® 2008 3D CAD Software

SolidWorks Corp., Concord, MA, has announced SolidWorks® 2008 3D CAD software that features a new user interface and 3D graphics, an enhancement of the SolidWorks Intelligent Feature Technology (SWIFT), and advanced design analysis capabilities. A new intuitive workflow predicts which tools users will need in the context of a specific task, and makes them readily available. The interface reduces mouse travel, and provides task-based command selection. SWIFT Instant3D lets users create and modify 3D model features by manipulating drag handles directly on the model. Users can make edits by dragging edges while looking at a slice of the model. SWIFT DimXpert automatically sets geometric dimensions and tolerances on parts, and provides visual feedback on whether the model has been described properly and is ready for manufacturing. It automatically creates views, dimensions, and tolerances in 2D drawings for design documentation. Design Clipart lets users search their file systems for sketches, tables, images, features, or DWG blocks inside existing designs. The feature dissects the target file, letting users drag the item to incorporate it in a new design. For Free Info Click Here.

Servo Motors

Elmo Motion Control (Westford, MA) has announced the integration of its SimplIQ core servo technology with plug and play capabilities into the Duet series of brushless DC servo motors. The Duet can support resolver feedback, programming capabilities, and communication protocols. The technology’s CANpen support in the motor enables users to add axes to the system by using Elmo’s Composer software. The composer also allows for configuration, testing, and turning by communicating via CANopen or RS-232. Since the main components are built into the motor, the Duet is able to maintain a compact size and requires fewer and shorter cables, which can speed up the wire routing process. The Duet is available in six different models with power ranging from 0.16 Nm (22.7 oz-in) to 2.5 Nm (354 oz-in) within a voltage range of 10 to 96 VDC.

Linear Actuator

Bishop-Wisecarver Corp. (Pittsburg, CA) has released the SRX-150, an aluminum profile linear actuator in belt- or ball-screw-driven versions. Both versions are available in 400, 600, 1000, 1500, and 1900 mm stroke lengths. The SRX-150 provides to 66kN dynamic load capacity, roll moment capacity to 3,380 Nm, and speeds to 5 m/s. A variety of connecting brackets, line shafts, and couplers simplifies gantry system design. The linear actuator offers zero backlash and long stroke operation. The SRX-150 is equipped with NSK K1 lubrication units for operation. End of travel energy-absorbing bumpers help eliminate damage caused by accidental crashes.
