Embedded System for Machine Vision

The EyeVBox II system from EVT (Karlsruhe, Germany) offers an Intel® AtomTM processor, four USB 2.0 interfaces at the back of the device, and two USB 2.0 interfaces at the front; interfaces, such as DVI-I and HDMI, are also available. Because the processors feature low-power consumption from the embedded or laptop area, the EyeVBox II does not need a fan and can be operated passively.

ADLINK (Taipei, Taiwan) has released a quad-core x86 smart camera, the NEON-1040. The device features a 4-MP 60-fps global shutter sensor, quad core Intel® Atom™ 1.9 GHz processors, and flexible software support. With FPGA coprocessor support, the NEON-1040 accelerates image pre-processing, including LUT (look up table), ROI (region of interest), and shading correction.

CMOS Cameras

The LX series from Baumer (Radeberg, Germany) features high-resolution CMOSIS sensors, a dual GigE interface, and 240 MB/s bandwidth. The cameras operate with 8-, 12-, and 20-megapixel resolutions. Eight- and 12-megapixel models utilize the CMOSIS 5.5 μm pixel design. The 20 MP model, with 6.4-μm pixel structure, features a low noise of 8 e- and a dynamic range of 66 dB. Because of its standard-compliant Dual GigE interface, the 20-MP GigE Vision camera currently available enables cost-efficient system integration.

Dewetron, Wakefield, RI, has introduced the TrendCorder series of instruments designed for basic data acquisition applications in industry. They feature intuitive, multi-touch operation, enabling them to be operated 100% by touch, including alphanumeric entry, channel setup, and display configuration. When the instrument is turned on, an app loads and shows incoming data immediately. The DejaVIEW™ feature enables a user to scroll back on the recorder graph to any place in the recording, and pinch/zoom on the graph to see any detail, no matter how far back in time, without interrupting current recording. This is designed for operators conducting long-term testing that cannot be interrupted. The instruments feature a 15.4" wide aspect multi-touch display, and data is streamed continuously to disk at rates up to 200 MB/s. The TrendCorder has four slots for TRION series plug-in modules. Three 6-channel modules are included in the TRC-18, with one slot free; the TRC-6 has one 6-channel module, with three slots free. The system weighs 18.7 pounds, including the input modules.

High-Power Laser Fiber Packaging

OSI Laser Diode, Inc. (LDI) (Edison, NJ), an OSI Systems Company, has introduced new packaging options for the CVD High Power Laser line. The innovative and compact package features coaxial cable construction, which permits a fiber option for lasers in a much smaller footprint than the standard TO5F housing. LDI’s new fiber coaxial packaging is available for 850 nm, 905 nm, and 1550 nm single-chip and stacked devices.
