Quadrant Photodiode

Opto Diode (Newbury Park, CA) has introduced the SXUVPS4C, a quadrant photodiode with a 5 mm2 active area in each quadrant. The new device is the first of two new SXUV multi-element photodiodes to be introduced. The TO-5 windowless package features a 5-pin header. With light responsivity from 1 to 1000 nm and a shunt resistance of 100 Mohms, the new quadrant photodiode is ideal for 2 axes-positional-centering applications for lasers in the 13.5 nm to 200 nm wavelength range. Operating and storage temperatures range from -10 degrees C to 40 degrees C (ambient) and from -20 degrees C to 80 degrees C (in nitrogen or vacuum conditions). The maximum junction temperature is 70 degrees C and the lead-soldering temperature is 260 degrees C at 0.080 in. from the case for 10 seconds.

250W CO2 Laser

Coherent, Inc. (Santa Clara, CA) has added the new DIAMOND E-250 to its E Series CO2 laser family. The power range for the Coherent E-Series product line extends from 150W to 1000W. The new DIAMOND E-250 is a fully sealed, pulsed CO2 laser offering 250W of average power and > 750W of peak pulse power. The DIAMOND E 250 has its RF power module integrated within the same housing as the laser tube, eliminating the RF umbilical cable required in older Coherent K-series lasers as well as other suppliers with separate RF power supply units. In addition to the DIAMOND E-250, Coherent is also offering the new DIAMOND E-250i in the same advanced compact configuration with an output wavelength of 9.4 µm. The shorter wavelength is ideal for processing a number of materials such as films and plastics used in mobile devices.

IR Emitters

Laser Components (Hudson, NH) has introduced a new generation of diamond-like pulsable infrared emitters. The DLSxxxX2224 series has replaced its predecessors, 17-900 and 22-1000. Significant improvements include tighter process control, a longer life expectancy, and a broader hot spot. In particular at wavelengths above 4.5 μm the signal increased by approximately 30%. The diagram shows a sample measurement of the modulation depth in relation to the pulse frequency. This was measured using an IG26X250S4i type extended InGaAs photodiode.

2.8 MP USB 3.0 Scientific Imaging Camera

Point Grey (Richmond, BC) announced a new addition to the Grasshopper3 scientific imaging camera family that features high quality, high resolution CCD sensors with a USB 3.0 interface. The new Grasshopper3 GS3-U3-28S5 camera models are based on color and monochrome versions of the fast and highly sensitive Sony ICX674, a 2/3" CCD featuring 4.54 micron square pixels and capable of sending 1932 x 1452 images at 26 FPS. The ICX674 sensor supports high definition (HD) 1080p30 imaging and uses Sony's EXview HAD CCD II™ technology—a further evolved version of the well-known EXview HAD CCD™ technology—to improve quantum efficiency and increase sensitivity, including into the near infrared. The GS3-U3-28S5 offers quantum efficiency of 67% at 525 nm, a dynamic range of 63 dB, dark current of 1.27 e-/second, and supports long exposures up to 30 seconds.
