Motion Control

Rotary Encoder

The Multi Wheel Encoder from Elma Electronic (Fremont, CA) is a miniature rotary encoder that includes an illuminated 8+1 joystick, enabling control using one finger. The encoder features Hall effect sensed incremental encoder output and 12 detents with magnetic indexing to ensure proper alignment and positioning through the life of the encoder. The encoder comes with IP66 sealing, and an outer O-ring for front panel sealing. Measuring 10.5 × 30 mm, the switch incorporates a low-profile design for space-constrained environments. Front or rear mounting is accomplished using two self-tapping screws that are driven into the switch’s polycarbonate body. The front end is metal with clear or black matte plating. The communication interface incorporates a UART output that sends an 8-bit command for every encoder step and joystick actuation, as well as an LED control input with a proprietary protocol. Operating temperature is -20 to +70 °C, and a 3 VDC power supply is required for proper Hall sensor operation. For Free Info Visit http://info.hotims.com/55590-302

Digital Load Cell

HBM (Marlborough, MA) introduced the FIT7A digital load cell that enables machines to make up to 180 weighings per minute. The load cell features accuracy class C4 per OIML R60, and a maximum scale interval factor Y of up to 25,000 in legal for trade applications. In non-legal for trade applications where the value is extremely low, a Tco of less than 40 ppm/10k is guaranteed. Because the FIT7A is a digital sensor, it is configurable and offers various signal conditioning functions. The PanelX software provides support for the configuration process with an intuitive user interface. The load cell enables signal analysis and adjustment of the digital filters to suppress interference. Other key features include a dosing mode, four limit value switches, trigger mode (external or level), and an IP66 rating. For Free Info Visit http://info.hotims.com/55590-303

Tabletop Robot

Universal Robots (Odense, Denmark) introduced the UR3 tabletop robot that weighs 24.3 pounds and has a payload of 6.6 pounds, 360-degree rotation on all wrist joints, and infinite rotation on the end joint. The flexible, lightweight robot can work side-by-side with employees. The robot has 15 adjustable safety settings including force sensing that enables the robot to limit the forces at contact if it collides with an employee. Default force sensing is 150 Newton, but can be set to stop if it encounters a force as low as 50 Newton in its route. The robot can pick up screws, and mount and tighten them with the correct torque. In gluing applications, the robot can dose exactly the same amount of glue with constant and steady pressure along a narrowly defined path. It features 0.1-mm repeatability, and can follow the outline of a surface by feel rather than through the programming of movements and coordinates. Angle Sensors

Novotechnik, U.S. (Southborough, MA) introduced the Vert-X 2400 compact angle sensors that convert rotational angle into a voltage output. The sensors are available in single and fully redundant versions; diameter of the housing base is 24 mm. Measurement range is 0 to 360° with repeatability of 0.1°. The sensors offer 12-bit resolution and linearity of ±1% of measurement range. The sensors are sealed to IP 67, life is greater than or equal to 20 million movements, and MTTF is over 600 years. The sensors are suited for industrial, medical, and off-highway vehicle applications with an operating temperature range of -40 to +125 °C and high immunity to emissions, meeting or exceeding five EN 61000 and two EN 55000 standards. Part Gripper

The EGP 25 electric small part gripper from SCHUNK (Morrisville, NC) weighs 110 g and has a stroke of 3 mm per finger. The gripping force can be adjusted on two stages, and maximum gripping force is 40 N. The gripper can handle workpieces up to 200 g, and closing time amounts to 0.09 s. The maintenance-free servomotors are brushless and equipped with cross roller guidance. The mechatronic gripper is based on the platform of the pneumatic MPG-plus small part gripper. Users can transfer the sensor system of the MPG-plus onto the EGP, and existing systems can be changed from pneumatic to electronic. The MPG-plus and the EGP can be mounted from the side or the bottom. The gripper housing is made of high-performance aluminum. It complies with protection class IP30, and is suitable for various applications in small part handling and assembly. For Free Info Visit http://info.hotims.com/55590-307

Hydraulic Motors

Dayton Lamina™ (Dayton, OH) offers low-speed/high-torque, high-speed/low-torque hydraulic motors that feature instant forward and reverse. Six motors are available with a torque range from 0 to 656 in-lbs. and speeds from 0 to 2255 RPM. Four flange options allow easy assembly to other production equipment. The motors include a bronze-plated bearing surface, positive metal-to-metal sealing, a positive splined drive, and a matched gear rotor. With three moving parts, they are suitable for applications including conveyor drives, hose reel extraction, fan drives, pipe valve openers, thread core removal for plastic injection molding, undersea tool manipulators, camera manipulators, and EDM machines. The motors include a main shaft that can be readily adapted by use of a chuck or collet to hold tools for rotary machinery operations such as drilling, boring, reaming, and other tasks. They perform with flow rates from 1 to 8 GPM to deliver from 100 to 1500 PSI. Parallel circuits are suggested to keep back pressure below 300 PSI.
