Wheel Force Transducer

Kistler North America (Novi, MI) has introduced the Kistler Type 9269A RoaDyn® S6HT System 2000, a six-component wheel force transducer (WFT) with specialty electronics platform. It is designed to measure three forces and three moments during complete chassis and component road load data acquisition (RLDA) and other on-road heavy truck, bus, civilian, and military special vehicle testing applications. The WFT incorporates six replaceable three-component heavyduty load cells. Each load cell is individually calibrated to allow sensor replacement without the need to recalibrate the entire system. An integral identification chip within each load cell stores important component parameters and prevents data misidentification. This feature allows data to be imported into the system’s onboard electronics upon startup.

Brushless Servomotors

The SHX and SPX brushless servomotors for CNC machinery applications are available from NUM Corp. (Naperville, IL). They eliminate the need for a separate encoder cable; machine builders can use a single drive-to-motor cable for each motion axis. Available in 75-, 95-, 126-, and 155-mm frame sizes and three different lengths, the servomotors provide a choice of output power and speed ratings to match different machinery applications. Both motor ranges feature high mass moments of rotor inertia, optimized for machine tool feed axes. The SHX range includes models with continuous torque outputs from 1.2 to 20 Nm, and the SPX range offers units with continuous torque ratings from 1.4 to 23 Nm.

Stepper Motor Driver

Lin Engineering (Morgan Hill, CA) offers the R525 stepper motor driver that reduces overall design time and system cost for an array of step motor applications needing high torque, power, and smooth motion. Measuring 3.3 × 1.3", the driver is accommodated into most systems. It provides up to 5 amps peak of current, handles up to 75VDC, and is capable of up to 256x microstepping with a standard 1.8° motor. It features builtin RS-485 communication, and can be connected to a computer and configured via a graphical user interface, LinDriver. Configurable settings include step resolution, run current, hold current, damping modes, and sensing step pulses on the rising edge or falling edge.

Casters

Revvo Caster Company (West Seneca, NY) offers ET Series casters designed to move moderate loads via manual propulsion. Four-inchdiameter swivel models are available with an optional fixed-position brake that mounts to the top plate so the brake is always in the same position regardless of which way the swivel wheel is facing. The swivel models feature a double-ball raceway for smooth directional movement with the capability to withstand shock loading. Fixed and swivel models are available in wheel sizes of 4" and 5" diameter with load capacities ranging from 264 to 550 pounds. Wheel types include polyurethane-on-nylon with roller bearings, and black nylon or blue rubber with precision ball bearings. Fixed models have an oblong top plate. Swivel models are available with either a special top plate for the fixed-position brake (4" diameter models only), or a standard top plate. Accessories include wheel locks for standard swivel models and thread guards to prevent debris from binding the wheel.

Load Sensors

Pepperl+Fuchs (Twinsburg, OH) has introduced Series 61 photoelectric sensors. The UL and cUL listed sensors are available in DC models with 4-in-1™ output, and AC/DC models with SPDT relay output. Accessible controls simplify set-up and adjustments, and color-coded labels make it easy to identify a given sensor’s sensing mode. The 4-in-1 output automatically sinks or sources, depending upon the load detected. Both 4-in-1 output models and SPDT output models include Standard Diffuse mode with a 1-m or 4-m sensing range, Diffuse with Background Suppression mode with a 500-mm or 2-m sensing range, Polarized Retroreflective mode with an 18-m sensing range, and Thru-beam mode with a 60-m sensing range. AC/DC versions with SPDT relay output are capable of switching up to 3 Amps. The sensors are also available in fiber optic versions where the sensing range is dependent on the fiber cable.

Pump Components

Metallized Carbon Corp. (Ossining, NY), offers custom vanes, rotors, and end plates for use in rotary vane pumps pumping both liquids and gases. The carbon-graphite components provide lubrication in most environments, and are suited for pumping liquids with poor lubricating qualities, strong chemicals that attack metals, and to pump air, vacuum, combustion products, and gasoline vapors. The materials are chemically resistant and are compatible with FDA food and beverage regulations. They have a low wear rate running in both gas atmospheres and low-viscosity liquids. Carbon graphite vanes can withstand the rubbing of the vane tip against the housing bore, and the rubbing of the side of the vane against the slots in the rotor. Lightweight carbon graphite rotors withstand the rubbing against the vane and the end plates.
