Motor Drive Software

Teledyne LeCroy (Chestnut Ridge, NY) announced three-phase Motor Drive Power Analyzer software for its HDO8000 oscilloscopes for motor drive embedded control and power section debug. With the addition of three-phase power analyzer capability, and motor speed and torque integration, the drive system can be validated and debugged, and drive and motor power and efficiency measurements may be performed. The software is used by motor, motor drive, variable frequency drive, variable speed drive, industrial automation, and motion control equipment manufacturers. Design engineers that integrate motors into their designs also can utilize the software to validate proprietary controls and complete drive system designs.

NASA's Hot 100 Technologies: Information Technology & Software

Enhanced Project Management Tool This invention is a system for managing a project that includes multiple tasks and workers. Periodic monthly, task plan, schedule, and budget reports are generated and made available for display or further analysis. When the system receives a description of a skill set needed for a project, the skill set module is queried. The name and relevant skill(s) possessed by each worker is displayed in a visually perceptible format.

NASA Computer Model Reveals Carbon Dioxide Levels

An ultra-high-resolution NASA computer model has given scientists a stunning new look at how carbon dioxide in the atmosphere travels around the globe.Plumes of carbon dioxide in the simulation swirl and shift as winds disperse the greenhouse gas away from its sources. The simulation also illustrates differences in carbon dioxide levels in the northern and southern hemispheres, and distinct swings in global carbon dioxide concentrations as the growth cycle of plants and trees changes with the seasons.Scientists have made ground-based measurements of carbon dioxide for decades and in July NASA launched the Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) satellite to make global, space-based carbon observations. But the simulation — the product of a new computer model that is among the highest-resolution ever created — is the first to show in such fine detail how carbon dioxide actually moves through the atmosphere. In addition to providing a striking visual description of the movements of an invisible gas like carbon dioxide, as it is blown by the winds, this kind of high-resolution simulation will help scientists better project future climate. Engineers can also use this model to test new satellite instrument concepts to gauge their usefulness. The model allows engineers to build and operate a “virtual” instrument inside a computer.SourceAlso: Learn about the NASA Data Acquisition System (NDAS).

System Health Monitoring Software Learns System Behavior from Data

The new techniques provide faster response and require less computer memory. Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California The Inductive Monitoring System (IMS) software tool uses data mining techniques to automatically characterize nominal system operation by analyzing archived system data. These nominal characterizations are then used to perform near-real-time system health monitoring or to analyze archived system data to detect anomalies in system behavior as compared with previous nominal behavior.

Integrated and Automated Software Test Environment for JPL Software Defined Radio

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California Software has been developed that provides an integrated and automated test environment for the Space Telecommunications Radio System (STRS). This software package is Linux based and provides interactive and scripted control to test the JPL Software Defined Radio (SDR) implementing STRS hardware and software functionality. It also provides error checking and data logging capabilities for system diagnosis. This is a C programming language-based software that uses the host’s serial interfaces, a Ballard Technology, Inc. 1553 bus interface, and Star-Dundee SpaceWire-USB interface to communicate with the JPL SDR to issue test commands, receive telemetry, and transfer files.

Time Series Product Tool (TSPT) Version 2.0

Stennis Space Center, Mississippi The Time Series Product Tool (TSPT) is a MATLAB-based software application that computes and displays high-quality vegetation and environmental monitoring indices from high temporal revisit rate Mod erate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and other satellite sensors. The original purpose of the TSPT was to fuse MODIS Terra and Aqua products to improve the temporal interpolation and filtering of time series affected by clouds. TSPT provides single-timeframe and multi-temporal change images as time series plots at a selected location, or as temporally processed image videos. The labor involved with manually creating these types and quantities of products is considerable; however, by using the TSPT, this process becomes simplified, efficient, and largely automated. This software tool enables and/or aides in the rapid regional surveillance of crops, forests, and other vegetative surfaces.

NASA Data Acquisition System (NDAS)

A software application is intended to be adaptable to any propulsion test stand or facility’s data acquisition system. Stennis Space Center, Mississippi The test complexes at John C. Stennis Space Center (SSC) require reliable and accurate data acquisition in order to analyze the results of rocket engine tests. Acquisition systems include high-speed data, low-speed data, event monitoring, and video feeds. In order to obtain accurate data, routine calibrations must be performed on each channel, which can be defined as a single data stream to be collected, including the entire hardware chain from signal acquisition by a transducer to signal conditioning by an amplifier and digitization by an analog-to-digital converter.
