Hexagon Metrology (North Kingston, RI) has announced the manual Cognitens WLS400M and the automated Cognitens WLS400A measurement systems. The white light measurement products use digital stereo vision technology to generate 3D data. Customers can choose between a portable configuration and an automated system, which can be operated with all common industrial robots.

Thermal Imager

NEC Avio Infrared Technologies (San Fernando, CA) has introduced its InfReC R300 high-definition thermal imager, which includes thermal movie recording to SD card in radiometric format, thermal/visible integrated images in composite/split-screen display, panoramas, autofocus, and 3.1 MP visible camera. The imager has a resolution (NETD) of 0.05°C and accuracy of ±1°C (1%). The R300 also comes with InfReC Analyzer NS9500PRO PC software, providing realtime recording, data analysis, and report creation. The R300's 320x240 microbolometer detector provides spatial resolution of 1.2 mrad (I.F.O.V) in a spectral range of 8 to 14 microns. The camera's standard temperature measuring range is -40 to 500°C, with an optional high-temperature range of 200 to 2000°C available. The R300 allows simultaneous video capture of thermal/visible images into PC via USB. The range of recording modes includes still visual and IR images, time interval, movies, panoramas, composites, and voice annotation. The detector also has optional lenses: 2x telephoto, 0.5x wide-angle, and close-up.

CMOS Linear Image Sensor

The S11108 CMOS linear image sensor from Hamamatsu Corp. (Bridgewater, NJ) offers sensitivity of 50 V/(lx•s). An amplifier is embedded in each pixel of the CMOS sensor. The S11108, which features a spectral response range of 400-1000nm, has a 28.672mm active area comprised of 2048 pixels, each measuring 14 × 14 μm. The image sensor requires a single 5V power supply to function. In addition, its built-in timing generator operates on start and clock pulse inputs. Other features include 10 MHz high-speed video data rate and an electronic shutter option.

CW Diode Laser Modules

Coherent (Santa Clara, CA) has expanded its CUBE product line of CW, visible diode laser modules with three new wavelengths: 488nm (50 mW), 685nm (40 mW), and 730nm (30 mW). The compact CUBE laser heads measure 100mm × 40mm × 40mm (3.9" × 1.6" × 1.6"), and all three new models are available with CDRH safety accessories enabling stand-alone operation in laboratory settings.

LED Driver ICs

Power Integrations (San Jose, CA) has added seven LED driver ICs to its LinkSwitch-PH line. The ICs (LNK413-LNK419) are suitable for lighting applications ranging from 3W bulbs to 55W fluorescent lighting fixture replacements. The devices, which can achieve up to 88% efficiency, feature a PWM-dimmable single-stage controller with both power factor correction (PFC) and accurate constant current (CC) power conversion functionality. The integrated PFC and CC functions allow multiple drivers to be connected in parallel. LinkSwitch-PH devices incorporate the PFC/CC controller, a 725V MOSFET, and MOSFET driver into a single package. The new ICs do not include the high-voltage electrolytic bulk capacitor and the optocoupler, components most likely to limit the lifetime of an LED lamp.

Optical Module Controller

Maxim Integrated Products (Sunnyvale, CA) has introduced the DS1878, a small form factor pluggable (SFP+) controller with a digital laser diode driver (LDD) interface. The state-machine-based device controls and monitors all functions for SFF, SFP, and SFP+ optical modules, and fully supports the SFF-8472 standard. It can be combined with a MAX3798 or MAX3799 SFP+ laser driver/limiting amplifier to provide an automatic power control (APC) loop, modulation current control, and eye safety functionality. The DS1878 also works with the MAX3945 limiting amplifier or the MAX3946 LDD to support 10 GHz applications featuring distributed feedback (DFB) or electro-absorption-modulated (EML) lasers. Laser modulation is controlled with a dedicated temperature-driven lookup table (LUT). Two additional 9-bit delta-sigma DAC outputs with 36-entry LUTs are provided. The DS1878 monitors six analog channels: temperature, Vcc, and MON1 to MON4; MON3 is a fully differential input.

Optical Filters for Avionics

PG&O provides narrow-cone-angle optical filters for PRP’s custom avionics displays. The specialized thin film filters are integrated into PRP Optoelectronics’ avionics displays to modify the viewing angle and reduce unwanted stray light that would otherwise distract pilot(s) and cockpit crew. The new optical coatings’ operational wavelengths and angle requirements are customized for sensitivity to nighttime lighting.

Photovoltaic Metallization Paste

DuPont Microcircuit Materials (MCM) (Research Triangle Park, NC) has introduced DuPont™ Solamet® PV701 photovoltaic metallization paste, a Metal Wrap Through (MWT) technology for back side interconnected silicon solar cell designs. The product composition specifically enables up to 0.4 percent greater efficiency in MWT cell designs versus standard cell designs. The specialized cell structure transfers the bus bars on the front side to the backside, reducing shading on the front side of the cell. The connections are made through holes in the silicon with the same composition as the bus bars. Employed as a via paste and p-contact metallization for back side tabbing interconnects, Solamet® PV701 features electrical contact to front side silver grid structures, high-mechanical strength, low shunting, high-line conductivity, and solderability as a p-contact metallization.

Bandpass Filters

REO (Boulder, CO) currently offers bandpass filters for operation in the visible (380nm — 760nm), near infrared (600nm — 1100nm), and mid-infrared (1.3μm — 2.6μm) spectral ranges. Nominal bandwidth is 1% (FWHM) of the center wavelength, with a peak transmission of 60% and a linearity of ±0.5%. The filters can be delivered on a wide array of optical glass, fused silica, as well as other substrate materials in the 3 × 1.5mm (L x W) to 150 × 65mm size range. Short wave pass and long wave pass edge filters are also available over the same spectral range and substrate sizes. Filters are fabricated using ion beam sputtering (IBS) technology in order to minimize scatter and absorption.
