Off-Axis Parabolic Mirrors

Optical Surfaces Ltd (Kenley, Surrey, UK) can typically produce off-axis parabolic mirrors up to 600 mm in diameter with surface accuracy's to lambda/20 p-v depending upon off-axis angles. With proprietary polishing techniques, Optical Surfaces can, depending on the surface accuracy required, achieve the natural limit to the off-axis angle of around 25-30 degrees and surface micro-roughness on aspherics of ~1 nm rms. A range of coatings is available for standard and custom components from metallic – with protective overcoat – to multilayer dielectrics and ultra-hard coatings. Parabolic mirrors are the most common type of aspheric used in optical instruments. They are free from spherical aberrations, and thus focus a parallel beam to a point or a point source to infinity.

TECHSPEC Dichroic Shortpass Filters are designed for a 45° angle of incidence. Light rejected by the filter is reflected at 90°, making the Dichroic Shortpass Filters perfectly suited for use in fluorescence applications and as spectral beamsplitters. Dichroic Shortpass Filters feature low polarization dependence, offer broad spectral ranges, and are made with a precision fused silica substrate. TECHSPEC Dichroic Shortpass Filters are available in 400 nm to 900 nm models with diameters of 12.5 mm and in 400 nm to 800 nm models with rectangular dimensions of 12.5 mm x 17.6 mm.

Multi-Channel Fiber Spectrometer

At the heart of Mightex (Pleasonton, CA) multi-channel spectrometers is a high-throughput flat-field imaging spectrograph. Multiple input fibers, each representing an independent signal channel, are aligned along the input slit of the imaging spectrograph. The spectrum of each channel is dispersed by a high-efficiency diffraction grating and then imaged onto a 2D CCD sensor. Light from each channel occupies different rows on the CCD sensor. All channels are exposed simultaneously, then rows associated with each channel are binned together to produce a spectrum for the channel. Fiber channels are spaced out properly to essentially eliminate crosstalk between adjacent channels. The standard CCD camera features a 1/2" 1.3MP Sony ICX205 imager with a 12-bit ADC. Exposure time (integrating time) can be varied between 50us and 200s.

NI PXIe-5186 digitizer

National Instruments, Austin, TX, has released the NI PXIe-5186 digitizer, co-developed with Tektronix, Beaverton, OR. The unit achieves up to 5 GHz bandwidth and 12.5 GS/s sample rates. The NI PXIe-5185 delivers 3 GHz bandwidth and 12.5 GS/s sample rate. Both digitizers incorporate Tektronix oscilloscope ASICs for high-speed signal acquisition with low noise and high linearity, and are based on the IBM 7HP SiGe process. The 500 fs RMS integrated jitter of the digitizers results in a 5.5 effective number of bits (ENOB) at 5 GHz. NI technology delivers high-data throughput for faster test execution and multimodule timing and synchronization for building high-channel-count, integrated test systems. Designed for the 3U PXI Express platform, the digitizers can stream at rates as fast as 700 MB/s, and synchronize channels on multiple modules to within 160 ps resolution. The digitizers work with NI LabVIEW graphical design software for instrument control and automation, the NI LabWindows™/CVI ANSI C software development environment, and Microsoft Visual Studio .NET development tools for a range of programming options.
