Voltage Regulator Online Design Tool

International Rectifier (IR®) (El Segundo, CA), has announced the availability of a new online design tool that enables electrical and thermal simulation and design optimization for the SupIRBuck™ family of integrated point-of-load voltage regulators. The user friendly, interactive, web-based tool, available at http://mypower.irf.com/SupIRBuck, enables the rapid selection and simulation of selected SupIRBuck products. Based on a designer ‘s given input and output parameters, the SupIRBuck online tool selects suitable devices for a given application. Once basic requirements are entered, the tool allows the user to capture schematics, create a reference design along with associated Bill of Materials (BOM), view waveforms, and perform complex thermal and application analysis.

I/Q Digitizer

The ZT8540 I/Q Digitizer from ZTEC Instruments (Albuquerque, NM) functions as a baseband Vector Signal Analyzer (VSA) from DC to 300 MHz.  This new baseband VSA provides the signal fidelity and real-time processing  capabilities that enable a broad set of necessary RF and wireless test techniques, such as performing EVM (error vector magnitude), ACLR (adjacent channel leakage ratio) and IM3 (3rd-order intermodulation distortion)  measurements or addressing complex MIMO applications.  The ZT8450 provides the combination of high instantaneous bandwidth, high dynamic range, very high linearity, and very low phase noise necessary to test and characterize the latest and next generation of RFIC components. Available in 2 or 4 channels in PXI, PCI, VXI and LXI.

Code Generation Software

MathWorks (Natick, MA) has announced the availability of MATLAB Coder, which
enables design engineers to automatically generate readable, portable C and
C++ code directly from their MATLAB algorithms. This new product eliminates
the need to manually translate MATLAB algorithm code into C and C++ code for
prototyping, implementation, and software integration. Along with the
introduction of MATLAB Coder, MathWorks released Simulink Coder and Embedded
Coder. These two new products simplify code generation for Simulink and
Stateflow users by combining capabilities previously available in multiple
MathWorks offerings.

Buck Regulators

Allegro MicroSystems (Worcester, MA) has announced two new robust automotive grade buck regulators with high switching frequency and output current, each integrating a low resistance, high-side, N-channel MOSFET. Allegro’sA8582/A8583 devices incorporate current-mode control to provide excellent loop stability and transient response. Both devices regulate input voltages from 4.7V to 36V down to output voltages as low as 0.8V, and are able to supply load current of at least 2A (A8582) or 3.5A (A8583). Protection features include VIN under voltage lockout (UVLO), cycle-by-cycle over current protection (OCP), hiccup mode short-circuit protection (HIC), over voltage protection (OVP), and thermal shutdown (TSD).

Demonstrator PCB

Elan Digital System’s (Fareham, UK) USBHC869 USB interface chip now has a Demonstrator PCB including SDK driver code to help engineers simplify and speed up the development task of implementing the capability of the chip.Windows CE and Linux (Android) driver software are also available for this chip. The USBHC869 chip is designed to provide a solution for adding USB host function to low cost microcontroller systems. On board PLL allows the use of the system clock and eliminates the need for an additional crystal and multi–standard I/O voltages of 3.3, 2.8 or 1.8V are supported, further reducing the additional system component count.

MTS 360 non-contacting SMD rotary position sensor

Piher International Corp., Libertyville, IL, has announced the MTS 360 non-contacting SMD rotary position sensor that combines a through-shaft design with 360° absolute position feedback in an ultra-miniature size. Measuring 6 x 17 x 18 mm, the sensor can be integrated directly onto a PCB. The low profile enables the sensor to fit into space-restricted places. It relies on patented Hall Effect technology to enable true non-contacting, through-hole shaft sensing using standard SMD features. The offset through-hole accommodates the vacuum pickup tool, allowing use in automated SMD assembly systems. The standard model features a 4-mm double D-flat shaft and an 8-pad SMD footprint that is compatible in most reflow soldering systems. The sensor offers electrical angles up to 360° with no dead band, and linearity as low as ±0.5%. Rated for use at -40 to +150 °C, it can operate up to 300 RPM, and can be programmed with full-scale output with angles shorter than 360 degrees.

Curvable LED Display

The F-6 curvable LED display from Pixled (Ostend, Belgium) features convex and concave curvability on both the horizontal and vertical planes. The F-6 can be shaped into a combination of both directions on both planes via integrated mechanics on each module. This can be achieved quickly and simply with no additional tools or rigging apparatus needed. The F-6's 4000 NIT brightness is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, with an IP65 rating on the front of the module, and IP54 on the rear. Each F-6 module measures 50 x 50cm in size with a thickness of just 6.3cm, for an ultra lightweight display of 34Kg per square meter.

LED Array

Cree, Inc. (Durham, NC) offers the XLamp® CXA20 LED array, which can enable a 60-watt A-lamp equivalent while consuming 11 watts. With a single, uniform optical source, compact 22mm x 22mm footprint, and two-screw attachment, the CXA20 array simplifies the manufacturing process for customers who require a single component in their light engine design. When used in a traditional downlight application, luminaires based on the CXA20 deliver 38-percent more illumination than a 26-watt CFL or a 100-watt incandescent bulb, while consuming 14 watts. The array delivers 1050 lumens at 11 watts — or 2000 lumens at 27 watts — with a 3000-K warm-white color temperature.
