Self-Retaining LED Mounting Spacers

Self-retaining, T-1 LED mounting spacers designed to assure uniform and perpendicular LED positioning while reducing assembly costs are available from Keystone Electronics Corp. (Astoria, NY). The spacers feature internal retention “teeth” which secure spacers onto LED leads, prior to assembly on PCBs. The design eliminates the possibility of LED lead shorting by separating and retaining component leads while inserting into a PCB. The spacers feature 0.5mm legs incorporated into the molded Nylon 6/6 structure to serve the dual purpose of heat dissipation and easy post-solder cleaning. Overall height of the spacers range from 3.0mm to 23.5mm.

LCD-LED Driver Cross-Reference Guide

Endicott Research Group, Inc. (ERG) (Endicott, NY) has updated its online LCD-LED Driver Cross- Reference Guide. The online guide has datasheets on over 200 drivers supporting more than 150 OEM panels. It has been updated with ERG’s line of full-function drivers for LED-backlit industrial LCDs in the 5.7" – 28" diagonal range. The cross-reference guide is a useful tool for designing new backlighting applications, as well as for finding a retrofit solution for CCFL replacement parts when a crossover to LED is desired. It also has been updated with ERG’s line of LED replacement rails, matched with the appropriate LED driver, for a number of OEM LED-backlit panels.

Optical Receiver for Laser Pulse Measurement

The new optical receiver iC212 from iC-Haus (Bodenheim, Germany) is the first of its kind that operates throughout a wide input frequency range of DC up to 1.4 GHz, combined with a wide spectral range, making it suitable for measuring things like fast laser diode pulses. The spectral sensitivity ranges from the near ultra violet at 320nm up to the infrared spectrum at 1000nm. The active sensor area of the Si-PIN photo diode with lens measures 0.75mm². This results in a gain of 1.625 V/mW at λ = 760nm. Thus optical power in the sub-mW range can be detected. DC levels at the input can be compensated for by means of an offset trimming feature.

PDL Source/Emulator

The PDLPro (PDLE-101) PDL Source/Emulator from General Photonics (Chino, CA) aids in testing to ensure that high speed fiber optic transceivers and coherent detection systems meet their stringent PDL tolerance specifications. The PDLE-101 is specifically designed for performance measurement of the PDL tolerance, tracking speed and recovery time of the PDL mitigation algorithm of a coherent detection system. Other applications include PDL emulation; code development for PDL compensation in coherent detection systems; and system PDL response testing. The PDLE-101 can generate individual PDL values between 0 dB and 20 dB, with a resolution of 0.1 dB for PDL tolerance testing. It can also generate variable PDL with a user-defined range, waveform, and speed for PDL tracking speed and recovery time tests.
