Electromagnetic Simulation Software

Remcom (State College, PA) announces an updated version of its electromagnetic simulation software, XFdtd Release 7 (XF7), which includes several geometric modeling additions and new performance efficiencies. The upgrade, which updates the software to Release 7.2, contains enhancements that simplify and speed overall usability. Additional modeling capabilities enable more precise control over cut geometries when sketching complex models, and simplified sampling interval settings for Frequencies of Interest (DFT) Simulations using averaged materials now exploit XStream GPU acceleration technology.

Optical Receiver for Laser Pulse Measurement

The new optical receiver iC212 from iC-Haus (Bodenheim, Germany) is the first of its kind that operates throughout a wide input frequency range of DC up to 1.4 GHz, combined with a wide spectral range, making it suitable for measuring things like fast laser diode pulses. The spectral sensitivity ranges from the near ultra violet at 320nm up to the infrared spectrum at 1000nm. The active sensor area of the Si-PIN photo diode with lens measures 0.75mm². This results in a gain of 1.625 V/mW at λ = 760nm. Thus optical power in the sub-mW range can be detected. DC levels at the input can be compensated for by means of an offset trimming feature.

PDL Source/Emulator

The PDLPro (PDLE-101) PDL Source/Emulator from General Photonics (Chino, CA) aids in testing to ensure that high speed fiber optic transceivers and coherent detection systems meet their stringent PDL tolerance specifications. The PDLE-101 is specifically designed for performance measurement of the PDL tolerance, tracking speed and recovery time of the PDL mitigation algorithm of a coherent detection system. Other applications include PDL emulation; code development for PDL compensation in coherent detection systems; and system PDL response testing. The PDLE-101 can generate individual PDL values between 0 dB and 20 dB, with a resolution of 0.1 dB for PDL tolerance testing. It can also generate variable PDL with a user-defined range, waveform, and speed for PDL tracking speed and recovery time tests.

These compact precision primes are optically corrected and broadband coated for the spectral range of 400-1000nm (VIS+NIR) on megapixel cameras. Engineered to image properly across the entire specified range, they offer consistent operation without focus shifts. The Schneider 2/3” Mega Pixel C-Mount lens family includes the following focal lengths: 4.8mm, 6mm, 8mm, 12mm, 17mm, 23mm, 35mm, and 70mm. Most have front threads to accept a screw-on filter, except for the 4.8mm and 6mm lenses that instead have an available filter adapter. Compact Series lenses are also available for 16mm and 22mm sensors.

UV Fluorescent Conformal Coating

Specialty Coating Systems (Indianapolis, IN) has introduced a new technology, SCS Parylene C-UVF™, a coating that fluoresces under a specific spectrum of UV light, enabling customers to identify and verify that their components are protected. Traditional Parylene coatings are ultra-thin and optically clear, making identification of coated components difficult. SCS Parylene C-UVF coatings are formed when a special compound is incorporated into the deposition process. The resultant coating is still ultra-thin, optically clear, and maintains the same electrical, mechanical and physical properties of SCS Parylene C, but it fluoresces under UV light.

EX1200-1538 Multifunction I/O Card

VTI Instruments Corp., Irvine, CA, has released the EX1200-1538 multifunction I/O card that delivers eight channels of independent 1-MHz frequency/32-bit counter inputs, 16 channels of isolated digital I/O, and two channels of isolated analog output (DAC) in a single instrument. The instrument is suited for electronic functional test (ATE) and data acquisition (DAQ) applications, including precision frequency and counter/timer measurements in ATE systems, motion or position measurements from rotating shafts, and monitoring the speed of motors or turbines. It is used in industrial control applications such as relay actuation, speed control, and simulation requiring protection against high common mode and transient voltages. Time and frequency domain measurement accuracy is obtained with electronic counter implementation. The instrument can directly measure frequency, totalize counts, RPM, and quadrature input signals. The isolated digital I/O and DAC output channels provide the ability to directly measure and control a range of industrial systems, and can be combined to achieve expanded voltage and current levels.
