Scalable Real-Time OS

TenAsys Corporation (Beaverton, OR) has announced a new scalable real-time OS called INtime® Distributed RTOS. Based on INtime for Windows®, INtime Distributed RTOS enables programmers to write applications that run without modification on different system configurations from single-core or multi-core processor systems to multi-platform systems with multi-core processors. The scalability of applications using INtime Distributed RTOS is made possible with the introduction of global objects and an underlying network called GOBSnet. This inter-process communications technology enables real-time embedded applications to leverage the performance potential of the new 2nd Generation Intel® processor family. Now, modules of performance-critical application code can be executed on their own processor cores.

Separation Kernel and Embedded Hypervisor

LynuxWorks™ (San Jose, CA) has introduced LynxSecure 5.0, a new separation kernel and hypervisor that adds performance increases for fully virtualized guest operating systems (OSes) by utilizing new hardware technologies and offering 64-bit and Symmetric Multi-processing (SMP) guest OS virtualization support. Software virtualization is commonly used on servers in Information Technology (IT) centers to gain a benefits such as equipment consolidation, ease of management, and the support of legacy applications. By implementing a new secure device virtualization mechanism, managed from a secure partition on LynxSecure, limited physical devices can now be virtualized and shared between guest OSes. By using LynxSecure’s policy-driven, inter-partition communication mechanism, the performance and security of the shared devices such as network, USB, HDD and graphics is optimized, bringing the benefits of security and virtualization to resource-limited client systems, such as laptop PCs or embedded devices.

Oscilloscope in a DIP Module

Saelig Company (Pittsford, NY) has introduced Xprotolab - the first mixed-signal oscilloscope with an arbitrary waveform generator housed in a tiny 1" x 1.6" DIP module. It can be mounted directly on a breadboard or PCB for in situ testing and verification. Based on Atmel's ATXMEGA32A4 microcontroller, with 32KB Flash, 4KB SRAM, 1KB EEPROM, Xprotolab can also be used as a development board for the AVR's XMEGA microcontroller. Xprotolab uses a 0.96" 128 x 64 pixel OLED display to provide the functions of an 8-bit mixed-signal oscilloscope with simultaneous sampling of analog and digital signals, providing 2 analog channels and 8 digital channels. It also offers Arbitrary Waveform Generator capabilities. The maximum input voltage is +/-10V with a maximum sampling rate of 2MSa/s, giving an analog bandwidth of 320kHz.
