Data Converter

Pentek, Upper Saddle River, NJ, offers the CobaltTM 71620 multichannel, high-speed data converter that uses Xilinx Virtex-6 field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology. This XMC module connects to HF or IF ports for communications, radar, and telemetry applications. It includes three Texas Instruments ADS5485 200-MHz, 16-bit A/Ds that deliver an input bandwidth of 350 MHz. A dual-channel TI DAC5688 800-MHz, 16-bit D/A provides two wideband analog outputs. Built-in 2x, 4x, and 8x interpolation filters and a digital upconverter translate real or complex baseband input signals to any IF center frequency up to 360 MHz. Four separate DRAM banks of 256 MB dedicate separate resources to I/O streams and processor requirements. The module may be optioned with QDRII+ banks, each 8 MB deep, to provide a memory resource for structures like data-streaming FIFOs.

Weld Inspection Scanner

Olympus NDT, Waltham, MA, has introduced the COBRA, a manual scanner designed to inspect welds in pipes with diameters as small as 0.84". It is used alongside the OmniScan® MX Phased Array flaw detector with the 16:128 module and OmniScan MXU software. It also features a low vertical profile to allow rotation around the pipe when adjacent obstructions are as close as 12 mm. The spring-loaded design can clamp onto carbon steel and stainless steel pipes of various diameters.

High-Speed Cameras

Photron, San Diego, CA, has introduced Range Version (RV) hardware that extends the normal operating temperature range of Fast-cam SA5 and SA2 cameras. The RV option includes two serviceable external fans that direct cooling air over the sealed camera body, stabilizing the operating temperature in harsh environments. The SA5 camera provides up to 7,500 fps at reduced resolution, and has a 12-bit, monochrome, 36-bit RGB color sensor that features 20-micron square pixels. The SA2 is a 12-bit, four-megapixel CMOS camera that delivers up to 1,000 fps at full pixel resolution (2K × 2K) and 1080 HDTV resolution up to 2,000 fps. This system is available with either a PL lens or a B4 lens mount.

OLED Panel

The ORBEOS panel from OSRAM Opto Semi con ductors, San Jose, CA, has a round lamp surface of 80mm diameter, is 2.1mm thick, and weighs 24g. With an efficiency of 25lm/W, the panel beats that of conventional halogen lamps. Its warm white color temperature (2,800K, CRI up to 80) matches the warm light of an incandescent lamp, and is therefore suited to lighting that is atmospheric and functional at the same time. ORBEOS can be switched on and off without delay and is continuously dimmable. The panel contains no mercury and emits no UV or infrared radiation. Its brightness level is usually 1,000cd/m² with power input of less than a watt. In ideal operating conditions it has a lifespan of around 5,000 hours. www.osram-os.com
