LEGIC Identsystems Ltd. (Zurich, Switzerland) recently introduced its new 6000 series reader ICs that combine RFID, BLE and a Secure Element into one chip. LEGIC’s technology platform is made up of five basic components: LEGIC Connect, mobile SDK, reader ICs, smartcard ICs and a key and authorisation management. With LEGIC Connect, authorisations can be granted and withdrawn easily on a smartphone. The app used for this is based on the LEGIC’s software development kit. Furthermore, mobile ID rights are then processed by a reader with LEGIC technology. The key and authorisation management make it possible to create a secure ID solution easily, without having to grapple with cryptography.

Littelfuse, Inc. (Chicago, IL) has introduced its first high voltage, surface-mount gas discharge tube (GDT) with two squared terminals that is capable of withstanding surge currents of 3kA@8/20μs in a small form factor. CG4 Series Two-Terminal High Voltage Miniature Gas Discharge Tubes are high voltage (800V – 3000V) devices designed for over-voltage protection for high isolation applications. They help protect personnel, equipment and circuitry from abnormally high voltages caused by lightning or electrical transients.

Solid State Tape Drive Replacement

Solid State Disks Ltd (Reading, UK) has launched SCSIFlash-Tape, which provides a CompactFlash-based, solid state replacement for traditional SCSI-based, electro-mechanical tape drives on legacy computer-based mil/aero systems that are either obsolete or nearing the end of their life. SCSIFlash-Tape provides a drop-in replacement for the popular DDS DAT, DLT and QIC tape drives on a variety of host systems. SCSIFlash-Tape only requires a 5V power supply and will also fit into a standard floppy disk drive slot using the same fixings. Featuring a small 3.5-inch footprint and using a standard 50 pin SCSI-1 or SCSI-2 connection, SCSIFlash-Tape boasts data transfer rates up to 6 Mbytes/s sustained.
