Photoluminescence Spectrometer (PRIORITY)

Edinburgh Instruments (Kirkton Campus, UK) introduces the FLS1000 state-of-the-art, modular photoluminescence spectrometer. The instrument excels in both steady state and time-resolved spectroscopy. It can be configured for spectral measurements from the ultraviolet to the mid-infrared spectral range, and for lifetime measurements spanning time resolutions over 12 orders of magnitude from picoseconds to seconds. Its ultimate sensitivity for the standard water Raman measurement is >30,000:1.

A new test system from Gamma Scientific (San Diego, CA) offers high spatial resolution color and contrast measurements for near eye displays (NED), such as virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) headsets, and heads up displays (HUD). The Gamma Scientific NED Measurement System incorporates compact imaging optics which feed both an integrated camera viewing system and a low-noise, high-accuracy spectroradiometer.

CoaXPress Frame Grabber

Responding to the need to create a cost-effective, high-speed interface to fully leverage CXP cameras, BitFlow (Woburn, MA) has introduced the Aon-CXP single link CoaXPress frame grabber. The Aon is powerful enough to support camera speeds up to 6.25 Gigabits/second, which is almost twice as fast as USB3 and over six times the speed of current offerings of GigE Vision. While capturing video at those speeds, it is simultaneously sending control commands, triggers and up to 13 W of power over a single piece of 75 Ohm coaxial cable.

Spectroscopy System

Princeton Instruments (Trenton, NJ) launched the FERGIE ™ spectroscopy system, a fully integrated, aberration-free spectrograph with a built-in, low-noise, cooled detector in an 11 × 7 × 8" profile. Thanks to a proprietary Princeton Instruments optical design, FERGIE offers spectral resolution of 0.13 nm/pixel with a 1200 g/mm grating. Additionally, FERGIE’s diffraction-limited imaging (>60 lp/mm spatial resolution throughout the focal plane) yields exceptionally high signal-to-noise ratios and permits multichannel spectroscopy.

Infrared Cameras

Sierra-Olympic Technologies (Hood River, OR), supplier of infrared (IR) and thermal imaging components and cameras, has introduced the Oculus surveillance systems from Silent Sentinel, Ltd. (Rocklin, CA). The new, environmentally rugged outdoor video technologies feature sim ultaneous visible and thermal imaging outputs. The continuous zoom optical cameras, available in either standard definition (SD) or high definition (HD), are paired with fixed field of view (FOV) thermal imagers to provide full daytime/nighttime vision capabilities. The system’s pan stage offers 360° continuous rotation; the tilt stage can be set for one of two modes at -90° viewing and full +90° tilt.

New Microscopy Technique

An innovative microfabrication technique used to produce a mirror array that both directs the excitation beam and holds the sample may revolutionize the field of 3D super-resolution mi - croscopy. The Single-Objective Selective-Plane Illumination Microscopy (soSPIM) allows re - searchers to examine the activity of single proteins or entire embryos on their existing microscope systems. The soSPIM technique utilizes an array of micromirrored wells, where each mirror is inclined at precisely 45 degrees. Together with a beam steering add-on unit, these micromirrors allow for both the excitation beam and resulting fluorescence signal to pass through a single standard, objective lens.

Photon Camera

The Imaging Photon Camera from PHOTONIS (Sturbridge, MA) operates under light-starved conditions. The device features micrometer resolution, picosecond timing, a full 18-mm wide field of view, and a count rate up to 5MHz (with no added read noise). A microchannel plate detector addresses the problem of electron noise. The Imaging Photon Camera connects to any microscopy or imaging device via a standard C-Mount. In Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy applications, the position of individual molecules, fluorescence time and diffusion, or dynamics can be determined at high resolution levels.

Photometrics® (Tucson, AZ) has announced the Prime 95B™ Scientific CMOS camera. The Prime 95B camera, built on the GSENSE400BSI-TVISB sensor, combines backside illumination (BSI) technology with large pixels and low-noise characteristics to maximize light collection. The Prime 95B, optimized for low-light microscopy, features a 95 percent QE and 11 × 11μm pixel area. The camera captures images using the full microscope field-of-view at over 41 frames per second (fps) with 16-bit images (and 82 fps with 12-bit images).
